Help moving apps to SD card

hi,

so let's get right into it: my Phone (avus a-24) has most of it's apps, inlcuding youtube, stored on the SD card.

yet my friends who use samsung and huaweii cannot do this, at all. they never get the option (grayed out).
i did not root my Phone or otherwise change anything, it's what came from the box + play store.

it has 1 GB internal memory wich is still more then enough and it keeps running, since it stored the other 8 GB on the SD card. my friend who has 4GB internal cant install new apps because they refuse to be installed on the SD card.

i also have an option in settings to "chose default location" for apps, for wich i can select the SD card, this entire field is simply *gone* from the other Phone, it doesnt exist there.

why does my cheap and old Phone do this very simple thing while a newer and more powerfull Phone cannot?

It must be a special ROM on your phone, normally for Android inferior than Marshmallow you can't install apps on SD card unless you use some tool like Link2sd and your phone must be rooted.

This is an excerpt from a longer thread on multiple issues regarding newer versions of Android.

Now, moving apps to SD ... As @Hadron and I have stated, in Android 4.x they revamped the file system and virtualized the storage and system volumes to dynamically allocate (internal) space as needed. This includes the internal /sdcard partition which is where apps would theoretically be moved to. Now with the system, user and sd card partitions all sharing the same memory space, it is moot where Android saves them as the default installation will allocate space as needed. Moving them to the sd partition just 'rearranges the furniture' as it were without giving you any more room or better performance. That's why it's greyed out for many apps even if the OS permits it. It's pointless.

If you want, you can read the whole discussion here. :)

so it is possible to get some apps to sd using link2sd? thanks. i will try this out.

if i replace my Phone this is something that the new one must be able to do. no point in upgrading if the upgrade ends up being a downgrade.

turns out my avus is rooted... now this explains a LOT about why i can do shit with this Phone others cannot.
thanks for the reply, i now have a path to follow to figure out how i can get the apps to the SD

Yes the paid version of Link2sd will allow you to move everything from internal memory to SD card, the free version only lets you move the executable files. I've used it for years on my rooted HTC with 4.2.2
