Moving files from Sd to Dropbox

When I upload files into Dropbox from my Sd card the files still show up on my Sd card afterwards.

I want to move files from my Sd card permanently to Dropbox so that I can free up storage on my Sd card.

Is it possible to do so or is Dropbox just a syncing service rather than a Cloud storage service.

Thanks

Dropbox is a Cloud Storage Service. When you upload a file to dropbox, it copies the file to dropbox, but leaves the file on your device. You will need to go back and delete the file manually. Alternatively, you can use a file manager like ES File Explorer to move files to Dropbox like it is another drive.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I was wary of deleting the file after cos I thought I might lose it.

When I tried to play music/video files from Dropbox they didnt play correctly. They were played on a streaming player which I didnt even realise the phone had.

Thats why I was wary of deleting off the sd. The files play correctly from the stock player from the Sd.

Thanks again

If you're not sure, check out your Dropbox from a device other than your phone, like a desktop. Then you'll see what's in there and what isn't.

I just wanted to add that Dropbox includes a built in streaming feature for anyone with ICS or higher. It's not the best at streaming and with long videos it will only stream the first 15 minutes. I've never tried streaming mp3 files though.

If a file is shown in the app, on the website or on your PC, it's synced up fine. I've never encountered a file mysteriously disappearing once I've uploaded it.
