Moving from internal storage to SD card storage without root.

Hi everybody, I need an app to move files from internal storage to SD card storage. I tried ES file Explorer, but it eventually just tells me it needs root permission. Any suggestions?. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you,
Anthony.

Try Send2sd - uses the "share" option to move any kind of file.

I'm confused I don't see an app with that name on the playstore, nor do I see an option like that on ES. Please explain, and excuse my slowness here.
Thank you for the help,
Anthony.

If your phone doesn't have that option in settings, applications, select the app you want to move, then it requires root I'm afraid

Hi, I understand that, but I'm not trying to move apps I'm trying to move files on the phones storage to an SD card. Please help...
Thank you for all the help,
Anthony.

What phone and what version of Android? Depending on what Android you have and what particular files you are trying to move, there may be no other option besides root.
If you're just talking about plain media files like music, pics, videos that shouldn't be a problem.

It is a zte zmax running stock kitkat. And yes I'm talking about m4a type music files. Unfortunately ES file Explorer told me I needed root to move them idk why. That's why I'm asking what other apps I can do it with. Thank you, I appreciate the help.

Hey sorry I misread your post.
Yeah kitkat brought in restrictions on apps writing to folders on SD that they don't "own".
I don't fully understand these restrictions but I believe they've been loosened in lollipop.
Sorry I know that doesn't help much but it's all I've got :thumbsupdroid:

Really I'm just trying to move music files to the SD card. Any idea of an app that would allow me to do that?. I have enough internal storage for apps. You see, my dad is going on vacation, and he wants music. This is the easiest way without a Comp . Thank you for the help and suggestions,
Anthony.

Sorry I don't have kitkat or an sd card now lol so can't even try but hopefully someone will be able to clear things up a bit :thumbsupdroid:

My view of the news....
Pretty sure you cannot put your music on the external sd without root as some folks (@Fox Mulder @funkylogik ) stated on KK.
The app that created the music file and therefore owns it, reads it, as you see, on the internal.
Cannot be moved...no app will read it.

I found that out. I rooted, on KK 4.4.2, and had to use a root only app for anything to be put on my ext sd so that PowerAmp (a music player app) could read it from there.
(got a boatload of music that would hog up internal otherwise)

Even if you managed to transfer them with a computer, an app will not be able to read it from the External SD.

Man that's truly terrible!! Luckily on my old phone with sd running kitkat I was rooted and running roms with the "fix" included.
Cheers for clearing that up Mike.
Sheesh no wonder a lot of peeps are complaining about this!!

Pretty dog gone sure that is correct there Funky :)
Sure I could flash a new LLP rom, but I'm content :)

Edit: fwiw, an article just over a year old when KK came onto the scene but will explain stuff a little better:

Have you tried copying from internal storage to your PC, putting your card in a reader in your PC and copying the files to it, and then putting the card back in your phone?

I have to try and find a pc to try to do it. It's been years since I've felt that I needed a pc. If I could borrow one I'll do it, and I reckon I'll also try it on my old phone running ice cream sandwich haha. Thank you for the help and suggestions,
Anthony.

If you use the stock Android file manager called "My Files" you can move anything to external SD card. It's only 3rd party apps that have this restriction. I use the LAN in ES Explorer to transfer stuff to the internal SD card from my computer, then use My Files to put them on the external SD card. Long way around but only thing that works unless you are prepared to root the phone & loose your warranty. Even then it's risky.:)

BTW All my music is on the external SD card and Poweramp found it no worries at all. Pictures and Docs too on external 32GB card. The built in camera app also lets me save pics to the external SD card. If I use a third party app, no go.
