Moving on...?

Yea I have an i5 and it does me good when I'm compiling a rom. It's great for encoding mp3s too, but it's rarely used to its full potential. So if my laptop isn't fully used and a quad, I can't imagine a phone or tablet would be.

(rant/) I gave up chasing fast/faster CPUs. It is crazy. Every other day someone is introducing the next faster than hell chipset and what I bought is behind the times and now cant keep up with the basic crap. It makes me want to scream. I gave up.

I am no graphics designer, nor am I a programmer who needs tons of speed. I surf porn and play video games and can do both if my PC lets me. What I need is a PC that lets me run a heavy Malware/Virus detector/anonamizer, surf and play heavy graphics video games.

I am kidding about the porn (for those of you who think I am a deviant) but I do want this in an affordable Pc. But affordable and great chipset/graphics/high memory do not compute with manufactorers. One either has top shelf (read expensive) or you have marginal crap that will be superceeded in months requiring another outlay of funds for upgrades or a major system repurchase. (/rant)

I gave up and I am running a Pentium II with XP and 528 megs RAM. This was after a rage incedent that ended with my PC being stomped on like I was on a pogo stick after a bout of constant locking up. It was probably a virus or something, well that and my lack of temper control. It was funny to watch but I was sick of it.

So here is a big middle finger salute to all PC/chipset makers.

Seriously. I hate you.

I was fortunate enough to get a Gateway on clearance that had an i5 and 2gb ram; otherwise I wouldn't have wasted the money on that processor. I'm just using it for music production and homework, so I don't need that much processing power (music programs rely on ram, not cpu like graphics/video). I've never been one to chase the newest chips and releases, because the stuff is outdated in 2 months. It's been that way since the 80s, so if people haven't figured that out in 30 years, let them waste money, I say. ;)

I buy one or two gens behind. I bought the 6 core cpu when the 8 cores went up for sale, I bought Radeon 6750 when the 7k launched. But I run virtual machines, have a degree in graphic design and work as a Windows/vmware/Unix/Linux admin. I am the only one in my family or my wife's that knows anything about computers, so I get takes with covering the vhs tapes, fixing the videos that won't pay on whatever device, making DVD's of family photos with music and effects, setting up any new device purchased, and the newest one, setting up virtual machines do they can log in remotely and try out something new (mostly Linux, but new versions of Windows show up too, and I've been working on getting a couple of OS X machines going)

The last few days I've been running my Spectrum on LTE instead of 3G like I usually do. I'm doing this to get a feel for how improved the battery life on the SGS3 will be.

I can tell you, I'm sorely disappointed in how much my battery life has decreased. I've gone from 12 hours of hard use on 3G to 6 hours on LTE.

After coming to this realization, I am very much looking forward to the SGS3.

Don't expect any better battery life on that phone. LTE simply uses more battery than cdma and wifi. You may get slightly better life on the new s3,but comparing LTE to cdma is apples to oranges.

What I've been seeing makes it look like under my typical usage I will be able to get about 4 more hours from the SGS3 than I do with my Spectrum.

I'm looking forward to trying.

Isn't the s3 on ICS? If so, there's why. ICS has tons of improvement to standby mode so battery life is increased quite a bit.

I posted my spec in 2 different locations on craigslist so I hope i can sell it. I really want jellybean.

Though a little warning. If anyone does get a gnex, don't flash JB yet. It's being reported that it's bricking phones just out of the blue after a reboot, and the process to fix it isnt a super easy one. There is a fix but it's not just a matter of reflashing stock, or reflashing a rom. Google claims to have an update to JB for the gnex coming soon. Unless this issue was an unknown one and now they have to hit the drawing board again.

Today a mint Gnex came across my plate and I took a bite, I paid sub $300 for it with extended battery so I might actually keep my Spec as a backup until ICS comes out then who knows. Unless anyone here wants a mint spectrum with case and screen protector PM me an offer. Good luck to everyone in Spec land I really hope for the best!
