Help Moving SIM card to new device

rginman

Lurker
I am thinking about buying an unlocked phone and want to know if I can move the SIM card from my Verizon Motorola Droid Razr Maxx to the new unlocked phone. Will it work that way? Will I have to go through Verizon to activate it? I have an old, grandfathered unlimited data plan with Verizon, and they won't let me make any changes with out changing plans, which I really don't want to do. I could never get even close to what I have now at the price I pay with another carrier or by changing plans with Verizon.

As far as I know if you buy a Verizon phone with lte capabilities you can switch the Sim card to from your old phone to your new phone, and your service will work. Wait for more replies, but I'm fairly sure that's how it works. Correct me if I'm wrong. Hope this helps.

The better Verizon phones come with CDMA and GSM radios.

Verizon voice service is on CDMA, like Sprint.

Unlocked phones don't tend to come with CDMA radios.

While on Verizon, the only thing that the sim card is used for is LTE.

Verizon phone going elsewhere - usually yes.

Unknown phone going to Verizon - no.
