Another Never Mind... We squabbled over my offer, I raised it, we squabbled some more, I raised it again, even more squabbling, finally settled. Then the inspection... needs a new roof and other stuff. Seller refused to cover that, so I walked.

Oh well, you guys convinced me it was too small anyway.

You Really have deep-seeded commitment issues,dont'cha? ;) :D

I wouldn't mind spending my retirement travelling the US & Canada in an RV.

I've always thought this was a fantastic idea, just live in an RV & drive it all around, exploring the US & Canada. The only problem is, with gas prices continually rising, that might not be a good option by the time I'm ready to retire (assuming I can actually afford to retire!)

Anyway, that little houselet has some very good points; views and privacy. And some very bad points; size and a weak move-in readiness. I was trying to measure where it sat on the the scale when a another bad point fell in; the roof. That tipped the scale on the getmeouttahere side. So now I'm outtathere.

...or I thought I was. Tuns out that the seller might have two things: (a) a roof warranty, not that it'll do any good after twenty-two years, and (b) dementia. None of us know if the trust has assigned a power of attorney or what the hell is going on over there. So I'm waiting for a miracle...

Wow, where are you located? Some comments make a reference to FL but I could not figure out. Reaching almost 40 and started thinking of retirement. Son's special needs wiped out all our retirement savings, now we are paycheck to paycheck. Future looks frightening. Where I am located now, 500K will buy 750sq ft condo. Its always surprising to watch HGTV to find such HUGE houses for around 200K. Really looking to retire where our son will be safe (hope he doesn't need services by the time we retire) and cost of living will be lot less..

location location location

in Texas.. Dallas Ft Worth area... 500k will get your a 4000sqft house.. within a very nice community.

Arizona, in what's called the central highlands, chock full of retirees already. Finding a place to retire is damn near impossible when you're already in one.
