Mowing

I hate it. Really hate it. I use a self propelled push mower, but it would be much better with a riding mower. I actually used to have one but it broke down and right now I can't afford another one, but honestly I even dislike mowing with a riding mower. Some people enjoy it but to me it's just a dreaded chore. A riding mower in the future will be MUCH better though because although I'm only 35 I have the body of an old man. I have sciatica from an accident when I was a kid and it acts up all the time, I have pretty severe early onset arthritis, and I have chronic tendonitis in both my arms and shoulders. This makes push mowing as well as certain things at work very painful.

Oh well I'll do it as long as I can and maybe by then I'll have a riding mower...I still won't enjoy it though!

Is hiring someone to mow the lawn an option? Teenagers are usually looking for ways to earn some money, so even if hiring an actual gardener isn't feasible, perhaps finding a teen who can come do the lawn every other week [or as needed] would work. Certainly a lot cheaper than buying a riding mower!

By the way, I completely understand the 'dreaded chore' feeling. There are some things I just detest doing.

I'm glad its wintertime now and I don't have to worry about it until, oh, perhaps April/May : phew:
Yeah, I don't like mowing either anymore...I used to...not anymore. I don't even fertilize anymore.....the grass grows faster :eviltongue:

Yeah I'm finally able to stop mowing for the winter here in Florida, it just started getting cold! It will be on and off cold just enough for the grass not to grow, but the real cold will come around January (by real cold I mean probably no lower than 20 and then only sporadically). I remember last year on Christmas it was still up and down and I think it was like 75-80 degrees lol.

Next year I think I may hire a teenager since I'll be in a MUCH better place financially lol. In the future my wife and I have actually considered goats since we're animal lovers lol.

I hope you can see your way clear to hire another to take care of your lawn in the future. I have a small lawn care business and average 40 properties a week. This is beyond my normal work week. Why, you ask... because I'm one that loves to mow. I do have all of the high dollar equipment which makes the work much easier and the product superb. I enjoy being outside and the satisfaction of leaving a well groomed lawn for my customer to admire. I enjoy the friendships I have earned through the years that go beyond employer employee. I enjoy the extra mad money that I earn.

Make certain that the person you hire understands what you expect for your buck. Be quick to pay but expect regular service at your agreed level of maintenance. You are the boss so don't be afraid to point out less than satisfactory work as well as give kuddos for a job well done. With a little luck you will find someone that will do you a fine job for a reasonable price. You will be happy having a well groomed lawn and knowing your money was well spent.
