Mp3 music as ring tone?

Ok, next issue........ I now have music on my phone, so how do I make a song my ringtone? No option in 'ringtones' to change to music on your phone, and wont give me the option in 'Play' that I can see.

You must want to look around! Part of the Nexus experience!

I have a 6P in hand and have all my ring tones with music that I have loaded on.

One thing I use is an app named File Manager and I use the "PC SYNC" option on the first page. No cables to mess with!

Cheers, will give it a try.

Here's another option: create a directory on your phone called "Ringtones" (it may already exist) and drop any MP3s you want to use in that directory. They will automatically show up as options when you go to chose ringtones.

I believe the same is true for the directories "Notifications" and "Alarms." If you have a special sound/song you want to use for notifications (I like the o.g. Star Trek blips and beeps), you can just drop the files in those directories on your phone.

Not sure if this is any easier than File Manager or PowerAmp... but it is another option.

Many thanks, will give it a try.

Stubby has it. Just drop the ringtones to that folder and notification sounds to that folder. You don't really "create" one you just source then and set them to be used.

Check out Zedge it's free and will let you download and assign them right away. Has a ton of great stuff and is always updated by users

Hi, how do you create a directory and the move your Google music files. Do I need a computer to do this? Regards

Yes. Plug in with your USB Cable, when prompted, select Media Transfer Protocol.
Now when you open your phone on a PC (just like a USB stick) you will see a list of folders called things like 'DCIM', 'Videos', etc. You can create new folders just like you normally would on a PC.

Once the folders are there, you can drag and drop audio files from your computer. Note that Google Music files are different to having, say, a .MP3 file saved on your PC, and you may need to find a different way to use it as a ringtone.

a newbie here I've enabled the usb from charge to MTF I have 1 song I bought on google play store but cannot find a way to move it from play store to my phones folder. I am using windows 10 don't ask on 5th attempt to keep it from freezing!!
now on my phone song shows up in play store and I downloaded an app called ringtone maker.
so how do I get the song from play store to a folder that the ringtone maker can access
please include step by step instructions would be much appreciated.

I assume the download manager for play store is for loading music from computer into it and not the reverse?

thanks for any help

It's a PITA, on the PC go to Google music, where you will be able to download your music to your PC then you can connect your phone to the PC and copy the song to the phone.

ok and how would you do it if you only want a certain part of the song or so on?
Can i select only a piece on the phone or do i have to do it on the computer first?

mistergoof,

at first I didn't realize google music and play store was same.

I downloaded the music manager and after that it showed where you could choose to upload music or download music to pc!
now if they would just say that in the general description it would save all some time.

thanks for the help much appreciated.

now if it will just work now using that ringtone app maker I will be a smiley face!

I use a PC program called Audacity to edit the MP3 and just clip the part that I want. There is also an Android app called Ringdroid that can do the same.

mistergoof thanks did as you said took all of 1 minute after moving music to phones folder to create the ringtone.

I wonder if there is an app for ringback ringtones so when you or a contact calls the music plays on there end?
