Help MP3's from iTunes skip

A couple of years ago I got a little program that would convert my iTunes library to mp3 for my phones to play. A big collection was built for my Nano which no longer is mine. Anyway, I noticed skips in the mp3 renderings. This has happened on each of my Android phones, Samsung, HTC, LG Spectrum 2 and my current G3.
Can this be repaired or do I need to delete all my mp3's and use a "sync" app to re-capture my iTunes Library?

Where are the mp3 stored .

Are these iTunes songs old enough that they have DRM in them?

If not then just copy the m4a's to the phone - there's no need to convert to mp3 to play them on android (and as that's converting one lossy format to another it's better not to if you don't have to).

They are stored Cloud and in the phone memory.

So, I should just delete what I backed up and have loaded on the phone and then copy them over?

I'd copy a few over as a test rather than deleting the lot straight away.
