MPH with car dock and no MPH without car dock

I didn't have my car dock with me on a trip in my wifes car, tried using the navigation and noticed that it didn't display the MPH we were travelling like it does when in the car dock.

Is this a particular feature available only when in car dock mode, or can I make this work without the dock?

Thanks

Yes. The feature is only available with the Car Dock. There's a special connector on the car dock that activates the custom software on the phone.

Another reason that the car dock is worth the $.

Since when does it show MPH? My phone has never done this...

I don't believe the standard Google Maps app displays MPH, but the Verizon Navigation app does, as do other 3rd party map apps. My personal favorite is Car Home Ultra. I think the Verizon app is a subscription model, which isn't worth it IMHO.

Hmm, I just downloaded the trial and will check it out.

Thanks!

I don't have a subscription to the verizon navigation, I just press the nav button while in the dock. So the MPH feature isn't a paid feature. Probably just like yoda said it's a car dock thing. So I have my answer.

But to reiterate, I don't pay any money for the (google) navigation feature. The MPH thing is pretty nice, my trucks speedo is a little different, nice to see what the cops are seeing.

I think the verizon nav subcription isn't worth it either.

When placing the Bionic into the Motorola Car Dock, I first get this screen...

I get the option to chose apps because I have downloaded the Car Home app.

To view the stock Car Dock app I would choose the bottom "SmartMode" app and then see this screen...

From here if you then choose "Navigation", you get this mode...

this mode shows your speed, but it is not a true navigation tool as it always displays your location in a "North is always up" view. From this screen you can enter true Google Navigation mode which does not display your speed.

I hope this clears up any questions that were raised in the earlier posts in this thread.

Ahh, this explains why I have never seen this... I always use navigation if I need to use it.

The question is .... Is there a way to activate that "Tracking" mode with the direction and speed from Car Home? I prefer Car Home to the standard offering, but I really like the moving map with speed and direction. That particular function would be nice to have available from a shortcut. Probably their lure to get more folks to buy the car dock.
