So we all know that T-mobile will be upgrading their hspa+ service to higher speeds. They are saying the vibrant 4G will be capable of 21+mb/s.. Does these mean that the MT4G will also be able to reach these speeds or are we stuck with the 14mb/s speed we never get anyway?
I don't know one person to ever get close to 14mb/s. The Nexus One was supposed to get 7mb/s. My guess is that the Vibrant will get like 10mb/s and the MT4G will possible get over 6-8mb/s. I've personally never seen over 6MB/s on my MT4G let alone any consistency. try streaming audio from tower to tower and you'll loose your connection just about every 7 miles apart. T-mobile could have the fastest, but it's the least reliable IMO.
The mytouch 4G will not be able to reach the 21mb/s. It is capped at 14.4 or whatever it is. The only way we will actually get that is when tmo does the second phase of their upgrade to 42mb/s. Only then we will see the full 14. (maybe) If your looking for faster then you would need to purchase a new phone. It has to do with the hardware installed on the phone and is not upgradeable via updates.
I ran a side-by-side test of MyTouch 4G and Nexus S Speedtest, and the Nexus S came out faster by 1Mbps (2Mbps vs 1Mbps). This was done in Houston where HSPA+ is available, and the MT4G was showing an "H". Kind of pointless to have that 14.4Mbps.
