Does anyone know if this will be a feature of the phone without root? Or will it be only available rooted?

I believe that I read that you can configure the LED right out of the box... but I've read so much lately on this phone I can't promise anything!

You do not need to be rooted for this.

It was on the slide at the presentation so no it doesn't need to be rooted.

Do you prefer the notification led to be on the top or bottom like it is on the SGN? My DX led is on the top and it is easier to see when I have it in my pocket protector shirt at work or bib overalls that I wear everywhere else.
