A friend of mine has a small business delivering booze around the city. Orders are taken on a mobile phone. The name, address, order and total are recorded in a simple spreadsheet, the orders are then bagged up and the driver takes the list and works through it. The driver also carries a small float of the most commonly ordered stuff (mainly tins and rolling tobacco) with any new orders text through to them, so they can do them without returning to base to collect more stuff.
This low-tech approach does actually work reasonably well but during very busy periods (12-3am Fridays and Saturdays) they do struggle to stay on top of it.
I'm wondering if there is a simple app that they could use? I have seen apps for taxi dispatch but these are built around seperate pick up and drop off locations. Similarly, pizza delivery apps assume returning to base after 1 or 2 drops - i.e. their products are perishable unlike my friends. I am aware of booze delivery apps such as Drizly but they generally take a cut in exchange for getting you the order - they are not looking to become an agent of one of these services.
Ideally, the phone for taking orders would remain at the base. Someone there takes the order, enters it into a second phone which then passes the order to a third phone which is with the driver who then completes the delivery.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
