How to quickly switch between several open apps?

I know some few are accessed via the pull down Notification area such as; phone calls, Downloading an app from Store & Google Navigation.

Suppose I open the browser & then press Home & open an app & then Press home & go into my files & open a document. Now I wish to rapidly switch from the open app to the open browser to my open document & maybe more.

How do I do this?

It is easy on a PC or a Mac.

I know if I click Home & then click the browser app or shortcut it will take me back to the last open web site if I have not backed out of it. Or, if I click Home & then the app my files & reselect my document .....

But, that is way too much trouble.

I know about the long press on Home to get the list of recently used apps. Is that the best way since it isn

As far as I know that is the way it works. If the app is designed to work in the background such as Tune In Radio, or the music player etc, and you back out to them to open other apps or read emails or text messages, you have to hit the app icon to get back into the app and then most of the time navigate back to where you left off.

If you're backing out of the app (hitting the back button repeatedly) you're generally exiting and closing the app. If you want to come back to the app you're best bet is to use the home button. And you can bring up the list off most recently used apps by pressing and holding the home button.
