Multiple batteries problems / battery calibration (Galaxy S2 i9100)...

I have started experiencing some problems with my Galaxy S2 i9100 lately. I suspect that one of the reasons is that I have two batteries, one is 2 years old and one is maybe 6 months old. If my battery runs out I take the spare battery from my backpack.

Now that I have googled a little bit I have understood that battery needs to be calibrated in order to function properly. Both of my batteries are original 1650mah batteries of Samsung, but one should surely have better capacity as it is much newer than the other one.

So if I calibrate the phone with one battery, it will not function correctly with the other battery, right...?

I also recently rooted my phone (now has siyah kernel etc..) but it is stock ROM. I have tried to disable as much shit as possible with Titanium backup but I might have disabled something I should not have done.

Below are symptoms and problems with my phone:

- sometimes suddently goes black, like powers itself off. Usually after I get it back on, it reports different battery capacity than before turning off

- battery draining very fast empty or at least the phone claiming that it drains, I mean the battery percentage in upper row of the phone gets lower much faster than it should.

- last friday I had very strange symptoms, my phone turned off, then I could not get it back on, I tried to charge it over 4 hours, first with one charger, then from computer USB port, then I changed to the other battery and tried the same thing, for 4 hours I could not get power at all to my phone! all though this was in a disco with a lot of fog machine smoke and probably higher moisture too.

- during the friday problem I could see my phone showing the "starting to charge logo", for a few seconds, then the phone goes black for like 5-10 seconds, then the "starting to charge logo" comes back again for a few seconds, then the phone again goes black for like 5-10 seconds. This loop would have repeated probably infinitely long if I didn't finally get frustrated and disconned the phone from the wire. In other words the "currently charging" animation with animating green area did not even appear on the screen at all!. Is this also related to the battery calibration problem or a different issue (micro USB connector problem perhaps)...?

- sometimes the phone is also pretty warm.

Some of these symptoms might be unrelated though.

Anyway is it possible to get the phone work OK if you are using multiple batteries with different capacities. I read that there is a software for this (mugen root) but it is very old and I would want to avoid specific software if possible.

Modern batteries don't need calibrated, they have no memory so you should just be able to plug them in, charge them fully once and they'll function as they should.

Google themselves also debunked the Battery Calibration myth from the phone side too: https://plus.google.com/u/0/105051985738280261832/posts/FV3LVtdVxPT (She's a Google Dev).

I actually think the issue is connected to the phone as opposed to the battery, it sounds like it's developing a hardware issue of some sort, but I've moved it to the SGS2 forum where folks who own the device can help. :)

Sorry to bring up this old thread. I stumbled upon this thread looking for the same answer for my Note4 with two battery problems. and some of it is the same with the ones that "golemus" is having like sudden battery indicator drop after restart and early turn off even when the battery percentage still have some charge. But after I regularly used all battery till they runs out (before I replace it when it hits below 15%) the problems subsides. I think the phone have some kind of battery calibrated memory and didn't do well with multiple battery being replaced at different power level left-over.

Clear the cache from recovery (not an app).

Calibration is reset with every battery replacement or power off.

Running your battery down is a waste of time.
