Multiple calendars showing in "Running Services"

I just got an HTC 3D two days ago - my first Android from a Blackberry.

So, I'm learning everything from scratch. In poking around, I went to Settings > Applications > Running Services, and see that my Calendar is there twice.

One says "1 process and 2 services", and the other says "1 process and 1 service". According to the runtime shown, they're only 9 seconds apart. Also, one shows 10MB and the other shows 8.4MB.

I don't know if I inadvertently started the Calendar App twice, but I don't "see" it running anywhere except on one of my home pages where it seems to be the only thing on that page.

Should I kill one of these processes? If so, which one? The smaller one?

Thanks,
Jason

OP, chances are good that one of the services that's running is for the stock, Google calendar app that's imbedded into the OS. HTC likes to replicate stock features with their own twist, so I suspect that the second service would be their proprietary calendar that runs off the syncing service that the Google one provides. Android has gotten really good at managing its RAM, and it'll kill things off FOR you if it needs space. So don't worry about what's running, unless you experience some janky behavior from your 3D.

Wow - thanks for the quick replies.

No, I haven't noticed any symptoms - I just have a tendency to monitor this type of thing. Seeing something running twice just looks like wasted resources to me, at first glance.

Also thanks Ryan for that explanation - sounds like there could be a legit reason for this.

Thanks again,
Jason
