Help Multiple issues with N7, help needed

My son's 2012 N7 has been causing problems for a while. We didn't install the latest update (which was probably a mistake). He's got really bad lag issues, which I think could be fixed or at least somewhat fixed by deleting a bunch of apps, but he's an app hoarder. I'm sure the update would help too.

The charging port went bad a while back, and the tablet was unusable until I got the dock for him. I did buy a new port, but I don't have a small enough screwdriver to replace it. Even tightening the metal around the port was only a temporary fix, so a full replacement is necessary.

To make matters worse, he dropped it yesterday. The screen is cracked, but not badly, so I thought it should still work. I see people successfully using phones with cracked or even shattered screens all the time! No such luck though, the screen is mostly unresponsive. The only time the screen will respond is if you long press. I can't restart the tablet, I can't get into settings. Nothing.

I really just want to get him a tablet with more storage, but of course, he doesn't want to lose his game progress, and I can't do anything with the tablet as it is right now. I've rooted devices before, but without the usb port working, I can't do that either. I don't know if I could with the screen unresponsive.

Any help or suggestions? When the usb port stopped working, I looked for a place to repair it, but didn't have any luck locally. There are loads of places that repair ios devices, but not Android.

Hello and welcome to the forums. It is places to repair the tablet . such as Bestbuy geeksquad , you can send it to the manufacture and they can fix it will be a pretty penny . now far as fixing the lag and unresponsive . that is from to much data on the tablet . this will be fixed but first wiped clean either when a new screen is replaced or after it replaced and they update it.

Also tiger direct repairs them . tigerdirect is also known as comp USA .

There are no Tiger Direct stores in my city, and I don't see an option to send it in for repairs on the website. When we first had issues with the charging port (before I bought the dock), I tried Best Buy, and they told me they don't do repairs on Android devices. Maybe only US Best Buy do repairs on Android?

If I could root it, I could save the data, but without a working USB port, I can't even root it.

I'm looking into replacing the glass and digitizer myself, but I'm concerned that it will be a waste of money because I'm not experienced in electronics repair.
