Multiple phone numbers for a contact

For the typical contact, I would put their name in once and all of their info including multiple phone numbers if they have them. But then I was thinking about what the best way is to enter a couple where they have one home number and each has a cell, for example, my parents. If you put a contact of "Mom and Dad" with their home number and put both cell numbers, that doesn't really work because it won't specify which cell is which and when any of those 3 numbers calls you, it will just pop up "call from mom and dad". So is it best to enter 3 separate contacts for a situation like this? Have one "Mom and Dad" with just the home phone number, one "Mom" with just her cell, and one "Dad" with just his cell? Or what would happen if I just made two contacts, one each for mom and dad and put the home number in both of them. What would happen if I got a call from the home number? Who would it say it is from since both entries would have that number? That is why I was wondering if it is a good idea to enter that 3rd entry with just the home number. What do you guys do for contacts like this?

I made one contact for "Mom and Dad" and have all their numbers there, just have to remember in my head what the last digits are for each type of phone number. Don't know what would happen if you entered the same phone number for two different contacts, guessing it would pop up either the most recently dialed contact name or the first alphabetically?

  1. Make a contact called "Mom & Dad"
  2. Add the home number and change the label on the left to "Home"
  3. Add Mom's cell phone number and select the label on the left that says custom. When the label window pops up call that label "Mom Cell".
  4. Repeat step three for Dad only changing the label to "Dad Cell".
  5. Save the contact.
When you receive a call, it will say "Mom & Dad" on the top and say "Home", "Mom Cell" or "Dad Cell" with the number, respectively, just below the "Mom & Dad".

Hope that helps.

Hey that is very helpful. Thank you! I can even do that for their emails too with the custom. One wierd thing I noticed is that it shows their birthday (because I must have entered it on the computer in Gmail because I can't see a way to add or edit birthdays from the phone) so I guess it won't work to have multiple birthdays but this was good info. Thank you.

Just enter their respective Birthdays in google calender and put calendar widget on one of your home screens? Had to do that
