Multiple Questions (Technical & Not)

So these questions pertain to the Nextbook Ares 8 Tablet

1.) Are we going to get a thread place for this tablet any time soon? (sorry to ask again lol)

2.) Has anyone started working on any custom roms for this tablet? If not, I'm willing to if I can learn. I've already got some nandroid backups and system dumps if anyone wants to use them.

3.) Speaking of system dumps, what all can I do with these files?

4.) Does anyone else have problems with the touchscreen while it's charging? Mine likes to not register my touches correctly and is "stuttery" and "glitches" (really weird....screen jumps all over and my taps activate things on the other side of the screen). Is there any fix for this? I've tried deleting apps recently installed and thats not the issue. I'd like to not factory reset or restore to stock but it seems that I may have to to fix this unless you know of any fixes.

5.) Is there a way to boost the volume that comes out of the built in speaker? Seems not that loud on full volume.

6.) Is there a way that I can use the system files that I have to make a port of Cyanogenmod for my tablet?

If anyone wants the files I mentioned, here's the links:

Mods, please

I've seen your posts across several places & sad to say,the interest simply isn't there for this device.
There is some development over @XDA DEVELOPERS if you're interested..................

Unfortunately it's got a Mediatek "MTK" processor. Which basically means you may not see any custom ROM for it. Mediatek has draconian NDAs that manufacturers using their SoCs, like Nextbook must comply with, which means they can't release any of their source code that's required for devs to build custom ROMs with.

As for the touchscreen problems while it's charging, try using a different charger. I've come across that problem before with cheapo devices and chargers, with them causing interference to the touchscreen while charging.

My googling indicates an Intel-powered device...................???????????????

That would be messed-up if both are available, especially if you're stuck with the MT processor & looking for aftermarket development.
At least it exists (for the Intel-powered,I presume, variant, over @XDA).
Bump

Plus can we get a forum for this device please?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, myself & mikedt have been there, regarding virtually non-existent interest in a device here in the forums. But,that's what happens with lesser known/low sales volume devices.
Not necessarily a knock on the device, but,if very few people own the device, the interest in it is gonna be proportionate to ownership/popularity.............................

It's been a long documented problem with MTK and open source ROM development. on XDA as well.

For the last few years, devices with MTK systems-on-chip haven’t received much in the way of official Android updates. Some OEMs were limited by MediaTek itself, which previously wasn’t the best at updating proprietary drivers, binaries, and kernels with every Android release. Custom ROM developers also had trouble with providing third party kernels due to lack of proper source code.

Basically trying to build ROMs for the many cheapo China devices.

Might be two versions of the same thing, same designation anyway.

Nextbook's own site indicates an Intel Atom.

Android running on Intel x86 in devices is something relatively recent, and so might not have been much custom ROM development yet. There's things like Android-x86, which is Android on a PC, but that's still very experimental and not supported by any major manufacturers. There's been some posts about Android app incompatibility with Intel tablets.

I actually have an Intel Atom tablet myself, a Ramos i9s. And that can come with either Android or Windows, I chose the Windows version. :thumbsupdroid: ....and any updates and upgrades for that come straight from Microsoft, like Win 8.1 to Win 10. AF doesn't have any fora for Ramos devices at all, as I think they're mainly sold in China, and not the US.
