El Presidente's thread Optimus V: All Things Root Guide (updated 06-14-2012) instructed us to PM you (AndyOpie 150) about q's regarding flash & recovery, and I got a couple.
The post has links to several different custom recoveries, and they appear to be exclusive to the corresponding rom in question. The reason that I'm bringing this up, is the fact that I just yesterday rooted my V via the Gingerbreak apk. method, as I have the the z4 V w/Novatec screen & v2.2.1. I used a video that I found on YouTube by liquidsword76 (along with a lot of tips from this forum) to gain root the phone. Everything went smooth, as far as the root; but then came the continuation video on actually flashing a custom rom. In this case, he was installing IHO's Backside based on the CM 7.
Now, the video has the viewer 1st putting the actual un-opened rom file on the sd, and then downloading CWM recovery from the Market and opening & installing it. The version of that is 5.0.2.0. It opened fine, but during the inst., it did not offer recognition for the OV in it's dropdown box. So being the cautious person that I am, I cancelled the install, and decided to investigate further. Obviously, I can't flash a rom w/o a manager in place. I wanted CMod Recovery, but on their site (the same site I got v5.0.2.8 for my wife's VM WFS cdma to root THAT phone), there IS no file specifically for the OV; that's when I found the thread here. Do you think that the market ver. of Rom mgr recognized the rom file sitting on the sd, pre-install, and offered choice accordingly during the install (because I still have not decided which rom I want to run, and therefore have nothing to "flash in" for the software to "see"), or is this an inherent issue w/CWM Recovery and its touch-flash version? And if it is an issue, is there a "universal" version? I did see another video where the reviewer had CM9 ICS rom that was running CWM v3.2.0.1 on HIS OptimusV...thoughts?
Peace;
Sox
Edit: NM, just saw the 'how to' thread...duh!
