Help Multitasking ?

I am having some trouble to understand what kind of multitasking does our S3 have.
People laugh at iOS platform with the lack of multitasking against android, but in my case was quite the opposite. Some days ago I played a game ( Jetpack Joyride ), on my friend's iPhone 3GS and he recieved a call. No problem, he answered ... talked... and gave me the phone back so I can resume my game.
Returning to my S3 ( since Jetpack Joyride is available on playstore

), played the game and suddently

someone called. Answered the call...talked...and

. When I returned to the game it was loading all over again from the begining. Preety disappointed that my S3 lost in favor of a 3 year old phone...

So I tested this "multitasking" on android, wich is a lie in my opinion, with multiple application on my S3. It seems that in most cases switching between games and browser ( dolphin browser ) at least one of them start to reload from fresh start. It wouldn't be a problem if it wouldn't take so much to load the apps back, not to mention that you would lose your progress or info made in that app.

Why do I say it's a lie ?
Because multitasking should let multiple apps play at the same time, not to pause all and run only the one that is on front. But android dind't manage to achieve at least this. It closes the apps...things that never happend on my alot older phones running Symbian.

I have to say that android has alot of work to do to achieve some multitasking experience... I'm sad knowing this about my S3... maybe there is hope with galaxy note 2 multitasking.

Samsung Galaxy S3 EU version.

The reason is, if I am not mistaken, that unlike WebOS, Android offers multitasking but the app itself has to be able to support the feature. If the developer doesn't include multitasking, Android won't handle it as you would expect.

This... the OS can handle multitasking beautifully and I along with many others use it all the time. The application you are using is likely not multitask capable by the developer.

Also, to reenter an app that you've left, try holding your home button down for a second and then select it from your recent apps instead of going through your apps tray. Sometimes that will take you back to where you were instead of reloading the app from scratch.

I do multitasking all the time this way.

And I want to agree with the others that the app has to support multitasking by the developer. As an example, when I am playing Temple Run and a call comes through, I answer the call and when done I hold the home button down to return to Temple Run to find the game has paused itself when the call came through.

I tried to reopen apps by holding the home button and switching from there, but no luck.

As for apps that support multitasking argument, that can't be true...because it happens also with the standard browser, wich also closes on reopening.

I trully believe this phone lacks RAM memory... Maybe they would release a version with a 8GB memory...:smokingsomb:

Tried that...didn't work. Do you have the US version of the S3 ?

This is odd. Again, my browser does not do this. When in the browser, if I use the home button to switch apps, my browser is just like it was before I switched apps.

Well... you would clearly see that this would be an issue common on the international version of the S3 with 1GB of RAM and not so common on the US version.
I believe it has big flaw with the lack of multitasking.

After alot of people told me that there could be an issue with apps that don't support multitasking, I tried a simple test with Youtube and the stock browser. Opened the Task Manager. Cleared memory. Then I opened 3 articles from GSMarena in three different tabs and also started a youtube HD video. Switching between them make either reload the webpages in the browser or reloads the youtube video from the beginning.
Please let me know that I am the only one having problems regarding this issue or I have to say that Galaxy S3 SUCKS at multitasking.

PS: I tried this on two different galaxy S3 and had the same issue.

1: use a different browser if it is affecting you that much.

2: If you aren't happy with the phone then get something else. Many people bash iOS on here but it is a great platform especially if you don't want to tinker or have full control of your phone.

Please don't get me wrong. Or maybe you didn't read my prevoius posts. The most frustranting issue was when I used an app and recieved a call, I lost my progress in that app. I tried different browsers and had the same error. It's not the browser, it's the phone that has this problem. And I have to say, it's the RAM memory that isn't sufficient.
That's why I asked here for help. Maiybe this will be solved with Jelly Bean.
But teling me to switch the phone, especialy for an iPhone was not the help I was looking for.

I apologize, it wasn't meant to steer you towards anything or suggest anything. We just see a lot of posts by people who seem to only want to complain on here and then use it as a reason to return to iOS.

I completely understand your frustration and I wish that I had more advice. I am running CM10 Jelly Bean on AT&T and am having no issues of this kind. My wife uses Chrome in place of the stock browser on her stock GS3 and is able to answer a call and return to the previous state in her browser. Actually, as I type this I am able to swap between tapatalk, chrome and the phone app without losing my position.

Out of curiosity, when you were first setting up the phone and in settings, did you perhaps enable the app limitations in developer options?

At the bottom of dev options there is a section for limiting background processes and perhaps this is on?

I knew about this option and never checked it.
Also you may never have the issues that I mentioned because I have seen that you have At&T's S3 wich comes with 2GB of ram.

I know nobody likes to read an entire thread before jumping to the last post, but It's the third time I'm writting that this is common for the international version of S3, wich has only 1GB of RAM.

One thing that I don't understand is why this phone is advertised with 1GB of RAM and you have available only 780MB from wich ~400MB are occupied at startup. JUST SAD:(

I am aware that you have only 1gb of memory in the international version but it is still plenty to retain the state of a browser or other applications. Perhaps someone with the same revision as you will be of more help. Good luck.

? ?
one thing the hate is how when im in the youtube app and its a vlog for example. all i want to do is listen to it while i surf the web but as soon as i leave the app the audio stops? why i thought i could multitask? i did the sMe with thd browser and tried the same with tabs and it didnt work, i tried the tabs with my ipad 2 and it worked...... help

never happens for me. while playing chaos rings i can get a call, end the call, and go right back to where i was. same for music.

as far as the youtube app. its not setup for multitasking. if you leave the youtube app it will stop the video. RAM has nothing to do with it, its how the app is programmed. the S3 can play videos in a pop-up window while you surf and do everything else. you can only do it in the stock video player though. again, that has to do with how the app is programmed.
