Help Music app, ringtone selection only pulling mp3 from external sd card

When I try to customize ringtones and play music from the music app the only files being detected are from my external sd card. I can't even see the mp3 files that are stored on the internal. I can go to the my files app and navigate to it but I want to customize my ringtones from the mp3s that are on the internal card. Thanks for your help
