Music Player Apps

I notice there is a bunch of these available, but I also have a standard one that came on the phone, are any of the app ones really any better, if so which one in your opinion is the best? Whats better about them?
Or are they only worth getting if you have a flasher phone then the LG P500 LOL.

At this point I can't really picture what could be better about the apps, but if i'm more informed I may change my mind.

PowerAmp pro. In my opinion it is the best music app available on the market. Lots of features and a music equalizer. Check out some reviews and most will agree it's the best music app out there.

+1 for PowerAmp Pro. I have an Atrix 4G and it is far suprior then the stock player. You can change the color highlight features of the player with in the app and the widget. You can manage and edit your songs tags, etc. Can create play list. You can have it find album art. Equalizer with presets or you can customize it how you like. It picks up where you left off. (Even when restarting your phone.) Doesn't use a lot of battery or processing power.

My problem with PowerAmp is for some reason it splits certain albums on me. For example, Train's "For You Its Me" is shown as two albums, one with 6 songs the other with 7. Ubermusic, WinAmp and TouchWiz Player all show it as a single album correctly.

Ubermusic looks great (best among all apps in looks and it sounds good too), and I just have WinAmp for the wireless music sync feature to get the songs into the phone without need for cables. However the past couple of weeks I reverted to the TouchWiz Player. Its pretty great, simple, straightforward, got equalizers, sounds good, and the only one that has music controls in the notification bar. You don't have to go to a different screen just to change the music playing while you're doing something else, like reading or browsing the net.

PowerAmp IS great...no doubt. But there are just a couple of others that are pretty damn cool to use. Check out "3" (previously called "cube"). I keep going back to this one because of the cool 3D interface and how well it reads album art.

Poweramp
Best sound you'll ever hear from your phone.
Good album organisation, but not the best.
Equalizer, album art finder, lyrics finder and a cool interface are other positive points.

PlayerPro and PowerAmp are the best because of the equaliser, widgets, and because they can sort your music by genre tag and folder. The extra sort options are essential if you have lots of music, because the artist and album lists are way too long for large collections.

Does anyone know a good player that uses the composer tag? This is useful for classical music and DJ remixes.

I used DoubleTwist for a while, but it was buggy (would stop playing in the middle of a song for no reason, or when I pressed play/pause with my headset it would emit a loud boop sound into my headphones).

I like Songbird a lot. It's almost the perfect player in terms of looks, smoothness of interface, and general performance. It has a major drawback for me (right now--hopefully they'll address it in future updates), which is that it doesn't remember what playlist you were last on (and what song on that playlist).

The stock music player didn't do much for me in Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, or Gingerbread. I gave it another shot in Ice Cream Sandwich, and it works quite well now--does almost everything I want (the ability to create smart playlists on the fly would be a bonus).

I have downloaded poweramp and 3, both look pretty cool at first glance, i'm going to have a proper fiddle with them tonight when I get the chance. Thanks everyone :)

In your playing with Cubed, be sure to check out the other "skins" (menu/view mode), also menu/more/equalizer. The widgets are also very nice looking. Great player if you don't want to pay up for Poweramp.

No, but you can edit the tags for each song. I have some house mixes that I created a genre taged as "House Mixes". Becareful though, it is case sensitive.

Yes, you have different view modes as stated but that cubed or "3" mode is awesome and so unique. Has anyone figured out a way to actually have it look only at subfolders inside the "directory filter" you choose? For example, I have it filtered to only the external memory card but it does not let me drill down further to select only my "Music" folder. This results in the app picking up about 3 unknown files because they are system related or ringtone files I have on the card.

That's really the ONLY problem I have this player. It is really that good!

Anyways,

If anyone knows a way around this issue, please let me know.

Thanks,

I had the same problem on my Galaxy Player because of the squirrely way the Ext Card is read. You can put a ".nomedia" file in any folder you don't want it to read.

Oh really?? That's all I have to do?

Thanks man, I'll try that today. That would be great.

PowerAmp pro +1. I have a huge music collection on my phone and most players were choking on trying to load them and would end up freezing. PowerAmp pro works perfectly and I've had no issues.

tcat007,
Tried this with no luck. Can you kindly provide some more details as to how you did this?

The only problem I have with it is the very first "Artist" it displays is Unknown. When you click on this, there's a list of files such as temp files, downloads, etc. While I did not find anything on the external SD card relating to the list, I did put this in every directory other than the Music directory it should only read. It did not work.

Thanks,

Sorry, I only read about that fix, I just tried it and see it didn't work, maybe you need to rescan the library. Might have to reinstall for that. I only have one folder giving me an unknown artist, "sounds", had nothing in it so I deleted it. You will get unknown artist if the song is not tagged correctly.

There's asks a file in "rock on" called ext_dirs" that has the path you selected in cubed. I edited that file, adding /mp3 to the path. I'm not sure how to get cubed to do a rescan to see if that works.
