they are mp3'sIf the phone doesn't support the file type of the songs, basically what you should do is convert the music into a compatible file type like mp3, or get a music player that plays that file type, like PowerAMP.
Not all mp3s have the same file extension or format. It's best to confirm the format by checking the properties.
I have had trouble adding music using both windows and linux. It's slow on linux and on windows, it would splice the some of the song together. You could try another player for your phone, and if that doesn't work then try using wifi pro from the market, I have had the best success with app in moving music to my phone.
So you say the songs are mp3?
If you right click on one of your songs in your folder and click properties, what does it read? Something like "Yoursong.mp3" Or "Yoursong.wma" or something different? I don't know your level of knowledge, so that's why I'm asking. Not all mp3s have the same file extension or format. It's best to confirm the format by checking the properties.
