Accessories Music Question

I just bought a Galaxy Tab 4 with the intention of using it to access our networks music folder. I have installed ES File Explorer so I can access the network, but I can't seem to get a media player to access the folder.

Is there a player out there that will allow me to designate a music folder other than the internal one?

What format are the files stored as?

Power Amp will want you to check off what folders you want it to get the media from in settings.
