Music stuttering

When listening to Google Play Music, I get bad stuttering when the phone is in lock screen. It doesn't seem to matter if I am streaming or going off SD. I am wondering if the CPU gets throttled under the lock screen and how I might fix this.

Edit: So while playing around some more I found that it occurred also when the screen was active. It only seemed to affect playback through headphones and phone speakers. I tried playing with a lot of settings, but finally I decided to try reverting from ART to Dalvik. That seems to have corrected the issue, at least with a small amount of testing. I will try it out some more and let you know.

I don't have this problem with the music player app. There might be a setting in Play that is causing an issue.
I an even have GPS running with no suffering with the screen off.

I don't have the problem either
Nvm. Just noticed he edited his op. Should have mentioned he switched to art which isn't even stable for us yet. Stick to dalvik.

How would one know that ART is not stable for the Volt, other than trial by fire?

Because ART is only "suitable" for those devices that have Android L. Any other device that uses it are not built or optimized for it. It may work, but not specifically designed for it.

I don't get any stuttering, but there is a half second long cut out that constantly happens like every 20 minutes. It is just mildly annoying, namely because playing back music seamlessly is something I expect any phone today to do. It happens in player pro and powerplayer.

mine does it with the stock music player and all the other ones I have tried.... bluetooth and 3.5mm... the volume gets dropped and comes back.... makes playing music on my car audio system really annoying.... I dont think the problem exists when playing streaming apps like iheart, pandora or even mlb at bat.... it also never does this when using the built in speaker.... so far this phone has been pretty much useless for music playing... and the audio volume overall is horrible

I was running FLAC earlier and thats when I learned to up the buffer to help with gaps in the audio. Now that I moved down to 320kbps acc combined with the higher buffer, I havn't noticed a gap yet. still need more time to call it gone though.

i was using the 3.5mm jack for about 35 minutes today and the volume dropout didnt exist maybe the phone just does not like bluetooth... something is making the volume dropout.... but i hate how the audio stops when you open any app.... not much options for multitasking while listening to music

FWIW, I had the same problem as OP (Google Music was stuttering) - it didn't start until I flipped to ART. I didn't have the problem with Dalvik. Thanks for posting your resolution, OP, I feel less crazy now.

Hi all, android noob. I build PC's as a hobby so no need to "dumb things down" for me to understand :)

I would like to know what this menu is or better yet how to delete it.

I don't know if it's an android app or a LG app

2 - LG volt's on boost mobile
4.4.2 kitkat
Towelroot

Will attach pic next post per forum limitation

It's an LG thing, you can delete the apps associated with it to get rid of it, easier to use the Xposed module called LG Pie Support to hide it

Update:
I still experience the stuttering symptoms on dalvik rt. I only use Google Play Music, and the problem gets worse with screen off. When I listen to music most frequently, I am in an area that has poor to no reception. Thinking that the stuttering had to do with the phone searching for a signal, I turned on airplane mode. No more stuttering past that point. Any ideas for a root cause or more convenient solution?

I've noticed the stuttering as I'm driving home with my phone streaming MP3's stored on an SD card via Bluetooth, so it's not internet connectivity problems.

I don't have the same problem if I use headphones, and my Galaxy S4 never missed a beat playing Bluetooth audio to the same car stereo. I use Shuttle+ on both phones, so that levels the playing field there as well.

I find right off a fresh reboot the problems don't exist but I will not reboot every time I leave the house or work to listen to music on my commute.... it does this volume drop out with BT or headphones sometimes worse than other times but it is still very annoying even more when I am doing a demo of my sound system
