Must have aps

Cypras

Newbie
What are the must have apps? From launcher, ram usage, wifi, anything awesome.
Just wondering.

Alarms, music players, syncing with pc, etc

Don't bother with a task killer, but for me some of the essentials are;

Avg
Hide 'n' seek
Synology apps (to easily access my nas)
Unit converter
Power amp
Elixir 2
Redlaser
Beejive/yak
Nfc ReTag
Opera
Photobucket

Hold the home button and then swipe the apps left or right. Or if you just press the back button to exit the apps the android system removes them from memory when it needs more

Antiviruses are not really needed. As long as you are careful what apps you download and where from then you should be fine. Always read the permissions required and if they look suspicious then google it or don't install. Apps only act through the permissions so it is rare that it can mess up with all the phone and then you can uninstall it. Just dont install dodgy apps from unknown locations.

Not sure about infected documents or movies though

how do you get to the android market?

the phone has an Apps/Widgets
and the "samsung" apps.

But I have old purchases from the ye old android app market of old that I cant get a search to find on their apps.

am I doing something wrong? surely there is more out there and I am accessing it wrong.

please point the way.

Downloaded an App called BAM ~ Best App Market
works outstanding!

A few apps I really like:

AirDroid (free, by Sand Studio). AirDroid lets you manage your phone via your computer's web browser. Particularly handy for transferring files back and forth. Worthwhile app, even if microSD card detection can be iffy with some phones.

Best Parking (free, bestparking.com). Assuming you're in one of the cities covered, it's usually fairly accurate, and indicates where the garages/lots are, and what their rates are.

RedLaser Barcode & QR Scanner (free). Just too useful to do without.

Google Sky Map (free). I'm an amateur astronomer, and have seen visitors to the observatory on public viewing nights use this app to find their way around the night sky.

WiFi Analyzer (free, farproc). I like using this, to see how all my neighbors are crowded together in the 2.4GHz band, while I'm sitting all alone in 5GHz land. Seriously, it's a good app, and a WiFi analyzer can sometimes come in handy.

TuneIn Radio Pro ($0.99, TuneIn Inc.). Lets me listen to around 50,000 radio stations, from all over the world. And a couple of million on demand programs. I love this app. (There's also a free version. The only difference is that the "Pro" version lets me record programs.)

Finally, I've recently discovered CarHome Ultra. It's a car dock app, and it seems to be a darn good one. Free for the first 30 days, then $1.99 for the licensed version. I haven't used it enough yet to say whether it's a "must have" app, but it's definitely looking that way.

Swiftkey 3 -- awesome keyboard with eerily accurate word prediction.

Amazon Appstore -- Free App of the Day makes this app worth downloading and installing. The FAOTD may not always be something you want, but eventually you'll find something to keep.

Handcent SMS -- I've never liked a stock messaging app and this is the one I've always used as a replacement.

Tapatalk -- You can participate on these forums with it on your phone!

+1 for Opera Mobile

A few I recommend are:
Google Chrome, my favorite Web browser by far
SwiftKey, and there are several keyboards but I dislike the stock one
Power amp, best music player app in my opinion
Teamviewer, free way to access any pc from your phone
Nova launcher, this is my favorite of the ICS+ launchers, and never been a big fan of touchwiz.
Edit:
A few I forgot are the xfinity player if you have comcast as a cable provider
Dropbox, a good way to keep files synced between many devices/computers
Also Google drive, and for the same reason as above

I definitely agree with power amp. Well worth paying for it. By far the best music app

I am obsessed with Flipboard lately. It has a quick and simple set up and pulls news articles from sources I've never heard of before.

I've used Flipboard and was not impressed because it shows only one story at a time. I prefer seeing multiple headlines and choosing stories that way.

A similar app that I use all the time is Zite. And if you input your email address and a password, the app will learn your interests and give you stories you're probably interested in. You just need to tell the app which stories you like and dislike.

My favorite RSS reader is by far Pulse.
