Mute the native mic sounds?

How do I mute or the sounds when I use my microphone to dictate a text message or email or anytime I use the mic. I don't need it to tell me with a sound that I've engaged the microphone or ended my comment. I know it. The little noises that sounds when I click the mic before I speak, and the double tones that I hear when I click send? Very annoying. Thank you and Happy New Year. Might trade in my Pixel 2 XL for an iPhone 7 if I am unable to mute this thang. . . .

I'd think you could disable most of those sound in your device settings under sounds.

As for the outgoing messages, check the settings within your messaging app. There's probably a setting for sound on outgoing messages.

Fortunately, we have the same device. I'll look around in my settings and see if I can find anything for the microphone. It might be related to just the regular keyboard sounds. IE: The clicks when you type. That might be a packaged deal.

Thanks, I have muted to key clicks and most other sounds, but this one baffles me. Thank you for looking around Brian. All the other sounds have specific on/off buttons.

I wonder if it's not possible? I thought maybe it's buried somewhere in the Google settings but I've had no luck finding it so far. Then it hit me, it should be in the keyboard settings, but it's not.

There is an option there to disable the button completely, but I cannot find a setting to turn the sound off. I'll let you know if I find anything but I can't think of anywhere else to look right now.

Okay, one more thing to add, it's possible to silence it, but I'm still not sure if a setting exists. If you turn your media volume all the way down (to silent) you can see it no longer plays that sound. But then your volume for all other sounds is off at that point.

Thanks so much Brian. I've been an Apple user since 1996 and was won over by the Pixel2 XL but I miss some of the features (iMessage for one) and the ability to turn off the sounds I don't want. I tried Pulse SMS but couldn't get it to sync so right now I'm not using any app on my computer for phone messages. I'll get used to it. Pixel 2 is an expensive but good camera and I wanted to give Androids a try. Thanks for your help. Mamamaglee!!!!

Grrr, don't get me started on iMessage. The frustrating closed source instant messaging. They really need to make an Android app. Keeping it closed source is only a benefit to Apple, it keeps people on their platform. It doesn't benefit the users though, by limiting who they comminate with.

Anyway, unfortunately I don't think that setting exists. I can't find it anywhere and I can't find anything via Google either. I bet it would be possible via a rooted device, by deleting or renaming the sound file. But that's probably not worth rooting for alone. Hopefully you can make due with silencing your media volume and turning it up when you want to watch a video or anything else requiring sound.

Yes about iMessage. I've been a computer user for 21 years but I don't know what rooting means Brian. I don't use my phone for watching videos, and would only need it for the occasional phone ringing. I just use it for text and email and THAT CAMERA. . . hello. I don't use wifi at home and have EMF sensitivities so I only use the phone for emergencies. Then, you may wonder why I plopped down so much green ca$h to get this phone. . . . Um, Me too. Cheers, Marcia.

Haha wow! Yes, that's an expensive phone not to use it. But it does have a nice camera.

Also, media volume and ringtone/notification volume are separate. So you can globally mute all device sounds via the media volume but still leave your ringer on if that makes sense.

And, no problem! That's what we're here for. :)

Edit: if you press a volume key, then hit the little arrow on the volume popup, you will see the separate controls.

Thank you. Yeah, they got me at the Verizon store! I liked the free photo storage in Google Drive. I'm pretty happy with it. Just wonder where my brain was when I signed on the dotted line! ;)
