My Backup Pro - What's Not Backed Up?

Besides application data, what else does NOT get backed up? Are things like your media files (eg. photos, videos, music) backed up? I did some searching but didn't find much for specifics.

I'm getting a replacement phone and want to do the most thorough data transfer possible WITHOUT rooting.

The bottom line is ... all the apps you can backup without root, you can just get again from the Market.

MOST data is where you can't back it up WITHOUT root - that includes app data and configuration.

Everything else? Resides on /SDCARD/ - Pictures, videos, etc. So back that up.

That's pretty much it ...

Ok. So when mybackup runs, does it backup your sdcard directory as an option, or do I just need to copy the sdcard directory to a computer?

I don't use the tool ... Personally, I would just backup the /SDCARD/ manually either over Wifi with something like SwiFTP or File Expert - or copy over USB cable.

Aslo, if you are not rooted, MyBackup Pro will not backup / restore the Market Links. That means if you restore an app with MyBackup Pro, it will not be listed in the "My Apps" section of the Market and you won't get updates to the app.

If it doesn't backup the data, then why does it ask you if you want that option?

MyBackup Pro will backup app .apk files, some settings, calendar, alarms, contacts, SMS, MMS, photos and more. IOW everything that does not require root. It will upload your backups to the cloud for you if you want. You can automate backups also. Been around almost as long as Android itself.

When people say "data", they could mean a couple things. MyBackup Pro does not backup the data associated with an app. For example, if you backup Angry Birds, your progress through the game does not get backed up. So if you have to hard reset your phone, restore with MyBackup Pro, you start from scratch with the app.

MyBackup Pro does backup data such as contacts / SMS / MMS / bookmarks, etc.

Well that sucks :D

So a rooted phone backup (like with Titanium Pro) is a more extensive backup?

If you are rooted, My Backup Pro also backs up the app data.

You need to be rooted to have those.

Titanium just does more than backing up stuff.

Yes, as others have said both Titanium and MyBackup Pro can backup application data if your phone is rooted.

Very disappointed with Titanium Pro. Everytime I try to do a restore it freezes up. That kind of makes it worthless... :o
