my battery experience S3

I know this has been beat to death but I discovered something on a recent business trip.

At home my phone is fine.
I leave on all the time
Bluetooth
GPS
Mobile Data
WiFi

I'm not a crazy abusive user, but I do use my phone quite a bit, and the stock battery will usually last all day. By the time I plug it in at night it is usually around 20 to 30% or so.

On my business trip I had a very weak cell signal where I was at. No 4G, just 3G, sometimes 1X, sometimes 0.
My phone was HOT and the battery only lasted 4 hours. I carry spares just in case and I had to use them.

So in my experience I think that cell signal strength has a lot to do with battery life.

Sorry if this has already been brought up. I searched but didn't see anything. Flame on!

Hello sdtag.

Battery life's relationship to strength of signal has to do with the system's efforts to make what signal there is useful. It also has to do with the scanning for strong signal and then polling found towers for data once the strongest signal is detected.

So, of course the weaker areas will chew up more battery, and also will cause the system to over work, resulting in more heat.
