My battery now lasts over 12 hours with regular use.

After dealing with short battery life like many of you, sometimes only getting 4 hours after a full nights charging and the phone just sitting on my desk,i figured out how to make it go the full day, even with regular use of web and email/sms. For me, it was simply reducing the frequency of syncs between all the various social networks I'm part of. My setting used to be every hour for Facebook, Twitter, and the worst culprit, Flickr. i would notice the phone constantly getting warm to the touch even if it just laid on the desk. Since changing the frequency to manual refresh, my battery is still well over 60% by nights end. YMMV.

I can't tell you how many times I have screamed on this forum just to leave off bt/wifi/3g when not in use. The easy thing to do is when you want to check them, have a widget, turn it on, then manual sync. I can go 24 hrs. Either way though I have gone 24hr with 3g turned on, just manual syncing.

yea turning mobil data off while not using it gets me way more use... just wish there was an automatic way to turn it on and off when needed... one thing i liked about winmo

Yup, conserving battery is even easier with battery widgets out there. They usually come in with built-in features to turn off the biggest culprits to conserve battery.

Another biggie as already mentioned in other threads is to turn off the phone and "top off" the charge.. I usually turn off my phone when the alarm goes off and let it charge while I'm getting ready for work/eating breakfast.

Now I can generally take my phone off the charger around 730am and it'll last me til 9pm with moderate use.

I just have the 3g widget on a screen with all my other on/off widgets. I just hit it and go to checking. I have gotten very used to it, and I came from wm6.5 as well. I tell you though, wm6.5 with data on sucked about a gazillion times more battery than the incredible with 3g on. Always had to manually turn it off too.

thats true but i had a program that turned mine off after a minute of non use which was cool and easy

Mine was unplugged from 9am to midnight yesterday so 15 hours. Still had more 30% battery easy, maybe 50%. I didn't use it a lot yesterday, a few calls, some light surfing, some text messages.

If I'm on wifi in my house, if I turn off mobile network, will I still be able to receive emails/sms/phone calls?

And if I turn mobile network off, with no wifi, will I still be able to receive SMS/Phone calls?

Sorry if there is another thread here with this info but I read about this workaround in a different forum that has given ne close to 20 hours battery life with heavy use. Kind of a pia but the results work. Charge while on until green light comes on. Unplug it, turn it off and then plug it back in. Wait for green light to come on again (about 15 - 30 min). Unplug, wait for light to go off and then plug it in a second time while off. It will take less time for the green light to turn back on. Unplug, turn on and your good to go. I do this overnight and works great.

As I said, I didnt come up with this, I just read it elsewhere, tried it and it worked for me.

I'm averaging about 16h of "since uplugged" and 4.5h of awake time the past few days at work. That is with doing the 'top off' trick mentioned here a few times.

I am also using profile settings full to turn off data sync during the day at work...

and besides, i understand turning off bluetooth and wifi when not in use, i never keep them on, but mobile network? that sucks having to shut it off. You have the phone to get emails, update on weather, updates on facebook, updates on everything, and if you turn that off it turns into a 1999 motorola razr. I mean, i understand you save battery, and i understand that can turn on mobile before you check mail, but i hate the fact that you have shut off the 1 important aspect of the phone to recieve emails, and updates, and syncs. just my .02, but i get it why you would need to do it. I dont need to get email if i'm at a desk for 8 hours a day, so then when i leave work i can turn on mobile network and then get my stuff after work. I get the idea, i just hate that it has to be done, thats all. I guess when the 2150 or 3500 mah comes out, all these battery saving tips will go to the garbage.

I leave my mobile network on... Just turn off autosync for exchange/gmail Since at work I am indeed sitting in front of the computer.

I'm doing this more for the ability to only manage my mail in one place than to save battery, the saving battery is a positive side effect. I always wanted to auto-disable syncing during the day with my iphone... Again so I wasn't getting email alerts on my phone and PC for the same mails :-)

turning on wifi whenever you can to save some juice (from 3g connections) is a good suggestion.

turning off all polling/syncing and manually checking everything "when needed" is just idiotic (as is toggling 3g)

I can get thru a day with everything running AS INTENDED, but if I couldn't and the only option was to castrate my phone I would honestly just take it back. There are plenty of smart phones that work perfectly well (and are a whole lot better than a neutered Inc.)

My battery has been getting about 14 hours of light to moderate use. That all changed today when I listened to a podcast. In one hour my battery lost abou 60% and is in the green. I'm bummed. If this is the norm then I guess I will erase my podcast apps, my radio apps and all my music. I had hope that I could use it to replace my Zen, but I guess using it at all for audio isn't going to fly.

If you going to the gym and listening to music or other pod casts for awhile, it makes sense that the battery will take a hit, especially if full phone capabilities are still on.

I didn't notice any problems taking it on the airplane, putting it in airplane mode turns off a lot of stuff, then listening to music. THat would be a better test for battery usage.

I would certainly try to plug it in if I was going to listen to an extended podcast/radio show etc.

I have never been a proponent of using a PDA as an iPod/Zune replacement. Just doesn't make any sense to me, especially considering how small cheap dedicated media players are.

Any idea if it's better (for the battery) to have podcasts on the internal memory vs. the SD card? Past experience would lead me to believe "Yes" but I haven't had phone with a MicroSD card before...

is there a difference between stopping mobile internet and stopping 3G? I assumed they were the same thing. this thread seems to confuse that topic.

I'm confused too. I'm new to this whole Smartphone thing.
I will turn off everything next time I try a podcast and see if it helps. I just wanted one less electronic device to have to take on a plane.

I agree with what you all said. Here is what i do.

At work i shut off mobile network, shut off wifi, shut off BT, shut off background data.
Of course background data is needed to go into market, but you can enable right when you go into market, it's shutting it back off that is a few clicks.

I disable auto sync, and removed facebook sync completely, and just use the facebook app.

SO when i leave work i turn on mobile network and i use my phone as intended from 630pm to 1am and then sleep and start the cycle over.

Of course you can just keep your phone plugged into computer all day at work and not have to worry about a thing, which is what i do sometimes if i know i'm going out after work and will be showing it around, or using navigation or heavy texting, phone calls.

I wish there was a way to shut off background data quicker, but you have to go to accounts and sync, and uncheck background data, but we can't have it all can we.

I'm unplugged since 8am, so far, about 75 texts, 10 MMS pictures sent by me, and 2 or 3 downloads from market place, about 2 minutes of showing apps (metal detector and compass) and i'm at 70%. So in 6 hours, i went down 30%, it wont last me the whole day, but i might charge around 5pm EST to get topped off to 100% by 7pm, and then i'll last the entire day.

Maybe i wont charge it since i'm goin home after work and i'll see how long it really takes the phone to die.

ANd it's nice just the DroidFans, i see about 10 iphones right now that are plugged into associate computers that are charging.
