My Downloads lost when upgrading OS

If I upgrade from 1.5 to 2.1 do I lose the entries in Market/My Downloads?

Sure would be nice if I didn't because all my apps are listed there and perhaps I could reinstall them from that listing one by one?

Thanks.

Jack

Your paid apps will still appear but not the free ones. I suggest you create an account on appbrain, install their application on the phone and sync it before the upgrade. Than make a backup copy of the list on appbrain, update the phone and restore the apps list from the copy.

Or you could perhaps root the phone, install titanium backup and restore from there after you updated the OS (it should restore the market links too).

Use Astro File Manager and backup all your files and you can restore the free apps after you upgrade. Keep in mind that apps from 1.5 may not be compatible with 2.1

sweet app! thanks! now seeing all the trouble with 2.1 I'm just not sure if it's worth the hassle to upgrade - and I suppose some 1.5 apps don't work with 2.1?

Don't really want to root - seems very complicated to me - your ideas about upgrading to 2.1 - is it worth it?

Thanks.

Your 1.5 apps will still work on 2.1, no worries! The update isn't complicated at all and rooting is very simple too. Wether or not you benefit from the update depends on what you expect from your phone and what you do with it.

An increasing number of apps nowadays is written specifically for Android 2.1 or later and thus you won't be able to run them without updating (you won't see them in the market when running 1.5 anyway). Bluetooth is better (not perfect yet but it does support some rudimentary file transfer).

Those are the two main reasons for me to justify the 2.1 update. Just google around a bit to see if 2.1 brings anything more to the table that you might like.

thanks - I appreciate your advice.

You could also make a list of your apps with Listables and save as an html file with qr codes that you can scan once you update your phone.

+1 on Astro. Make sure you have a Downloads folder. I did a factory reset and everything was there for reinstall. As for market apps, I use Appbrain. Save the list before conducting major surgery tho. :D
