my first day with my M8

Having used a iphone 3 and 4s, i got more and more unhappy with the updates and itunes not working.
My wife got a M8 last month, i decided to get one too... From the first moment i was a lot happier, slowly finding my way through it all ... It is a part of my life allready. Any quick tips for apps to ease life, online radio, car parts suppliers etc? I just love my new phone.

Welcome to the forums, welcome to Android and congratulations on your new phone! :)

There are nearly endless personal customizations available. My M8 and my wife's look very different in a lot of places.

I like TuneIn Radio Pro. I don't know if it's the best, but I like it a lot.

iHeartRadio is also very good.

I don't like the stock texting app but I do like Textra. It always comes through for me.

Go to the MMS settings and tell it you want group texts to go as MMS for best iPhone compatibility.

I like Business Calendar Pro (actually the new name is Business Calendar 2) - I have a really handy full month widget on one screen set to semi-transparent, it looks great.

If you dig the remote control, here's my favorite app for that -

Get HTC IR - Universal Remote Control from the Amazon Appstore. Check it out - http://amzn.to/1872rco

Speaking of which - check out the Amazon App Store, they give away a free app everyday, some are meh, many are great.

That's a start. :)

In my opinion, you just got the best phone out there.

Ask around about anything, this is a newcomer friendly community! :)

Welcome to AF Landy101fc and welcome to the M8. It is a great phone that I believe will serve you well. I've never owned a ianything so I can't compare but the M8 is by far the best android phone I've owned. As far as apps and such, everyone has a different list of "must have apps" so I'll not bother to list mine. My suggestion would be to just go shopping. If you see something that looks cool just give it a whirl. If you don't like it.. toss it to the side and try something else. As long as you shop at the play store the apps should work well with your phone. Lots of fun to be had with android and a lot more fun on a stellar device... like the M8. Welcome again to the M8 corner of AF.

Hi there,
I have had my m8 for about 10 months now and must admit i still love the feel and weight of it.
I started a thread on the applications group the other day and mention some great apps as well as asking for input from others so it might be worthwhile keeping an eye on it.

Couple of other things, it is worthwhile getting a case and a screen protector.
I have had a couple but my favourite is the spigen ultra hybrid soft clear case. this has a perfectly clear back with a clear(ish) bumper that fits perfectly on your phone, gives great grip in your hand but still allows the great look of your phone to be seen.
I got mines from Amazon UK here

hope the link works OK.
It comes with a decent screen protector as well but for the past 6 months or so i have used the tempered glass screen protectors you can get off ebay for about 3 or 4 pounds, they allow perfect viewing of your screen but feel great compared to some screen protectors that can drag.
I bought the m8 as i thought it was a stunning looking phone, this cover and screen protector offer great protection and my phone still looks great.

Good luck and enjoy your new phone.

Textra is a great replacement. From the same devs who did BiteSMS if you ever ventured into the jail breaking scene. Another one I'm currently using is Disa which when it's up and running should be a complete universal inbox for all messages. Currently it only supports SMS and whatsapp but being able to do both of them from one single app is so much easier!

Radio stations always gotta be Digitally Imported. But what ever radio stations you had on the iPhone will be on android as well or at least an alternative.

Since you probably didn't get iOS 8 find out why Apple copied Android and ditch the keyboard and get yourself a new one. My personal preference is SwiftKey. It's powered by magic.

If you like to automate stuff then Tasker is your friend. Fantastically powerful app that will allow you set up your phone once and it will do it automatically till you delete the app or turn it off. Takes some learning but well worth it. One of the reasons I came from the iPhone to android.

The only issue i have is the limited tethering, three don't even got a upgrade for it. I shall investigate about tethering on a pay as you go, the minutes will be used by my brothers when they come over :) i will either use my wifes old iphone 4s or my older brothers 3G back.
2Gb lasts mea week, i need my laptop for a bigger screen to see details during education videos

Love my M8 too, it feels solid and heavy, love the dual front stereo speakers, the screen is great, but I don't like the non-removable battery (bad idea copied from iPhone?).
