I'm trying to set my wallpaper on my rooted stock S3 for Holo Launcher HD. When I tell it to set wallpaper, it asks if I'd like to choose the wallpaper from Gallery, Wallpapers, Live Wallpapers, or ES File Explorer. Well "Wallpapers" and "Live Wallpapers" are out of the question, because they don't let me choose the file I downloaded.
I downloaded a 1440x1280 jpg, the exact pixel dimensions required to have a scrolling wallpaper on this phone. But when I try to pick a wallpaper using ES File Explorer or Gallery, it puts a little bounding box over the wallpaper asking me "how much" of the wallpaper I really want to use. Well naturally I just select the entire thing, but then it recompresses a new wallpaper out of the original file, and it uses AWFUL jpg compression, where all the smooth colour gradients are turned into these awful posterized lines.
Is there any way I can manually force using the actual file as my wallpaper, instead of trying to "make" a wallpaper out of a downloaded jpg? Or if not that, then is there any way I can force the "wallpaper maker" to use 100% jpg compression, instead of the awful 30% it appears to be using?
