Agreed and thank you for this clue re Flipboard. I've selected Settings / App Manager / All / Flipboard and uninstalled all the updates. I was hoping to disable it from there but having removed the updates the 'Disable' button was greyed out. How did you disable it?
 
I just selected all of the subscriptions so the app doesn't go out hunting for data. Knowing it's an embedded app, I didn't even try to "disable" or remove it. I guess you could if you root but I have no interest in rooting.

As you say, one cannot remove embedded apps but one can usually disable them as I outlined in my previous post. In fact I have 12 disabled on my tablet but as mentioned, I could not disable Flipboard even though I did uninstall all the updates. Not to worry, it's no big deal.
