Howdy all...

After dealing with a fussy 4G USB modem for nearly a year...I gave up and decided to get a phone to serve both purposes (talk and data).

The phone is on its way and I just ordered an Otterbox Defender from Amazon...I almost got the Commuter case, but figured I better get the Defender because I'm a heavy haul truck driver and my work gets a bit physical at times.

My current phone is a Casio GzOne Ravine which can be used as a modem, but only in 3G, its a great phone...the first thats ever lasted me over a year, LOL. I'm gonna give it to my Dad since he wants a cell phone but is too cheap to buy one (he'll also be on "my" family plan, LOL...but he don't talk on the phone much)

My plan for the Maxx is to leave it in the truck while I'm loading or unloading and just use the Bluetooth (it should work as long as I don't venture too far from the truck)...but I still wanted the Otterbox because I have been known to drop my phone out of the truck a time or two, should be OK...as long as I don't do it at 65mph, LOL.

So...heres to hoping my first smart phone is a good one.

Good luck with your new phone. I hear the MAXX is a beast. Will you have frequent 4G coverage as a driver? Also, if you haven't used Defender cases before, keep in mind they make pretty much all phones TANKS. A friend has a 3GS and she has a Defender case on it, and it really beefs it up. I do like that it's completely rubberized (I had a Commuter case for my old Bionic and didn't like it because it was so slick).

Wow...this thing is gonna take some getting used to, lol.

I made it home today...4G is available in more places as time goes on.

I can' t type on this damn thing, lol.

Well...despite the learning curve the phone is AWESOME.

I've had some issues with AOL Mail but it seems thats common...and thats not my main email account anyway so I changed the few places that were still using the AOL mail over to Gmail and all is well.

I also went through the motions with Gmail not pushing but figured that out with the help of this forum (leave the background data enabled).

I'm slowly getting used to typing on it, but thats gonna take a while.

Switch input method (long press in a text field) to Swype. Profit. With case, you can't use a dock. I would go with a dock being on the road that long. Still use Bluetooth that way.
