My N7 died today....

My grandson dropped my N7 on the transition between the tile kitchen floor and carpet. It was in the Sedio Active case, which did absolutely nothing to protect it.. *sigh* the screen has some cracks, and the top left quadrant of the screen is unresponsive.:(

Now I need to decide whether to replace it now, or try to hold out until the next generation. Of course, I'll be going out of town for a few days, and it would REALLY be nice to have it for the hotel room.

I need a little cheese with my whine....

So the question is, do I replace it now, or wait?

Hold out.

If you replace it now and something better comes out for the same price after the I/O, you'll kick yourself (I know I would). Can you use it for movies etc still? Something where you wouldn't need to use that part of the screen.

Gutted for you though. Sorta annoyed too, I have the active and thought that made it virtually invincible.

I'd definitely say to wait. Come next week there will probably be a new N7 out for the same price, so if you can, be patient :-)

I'm hoping that the current generation of N7's will be going on sale. If they do, I'll get one then. In a weak moment last night, I ordered one on Amazon...then cancelled within 10 minutes. Of course, I got shipping notification this morning...yet it doesn't appear in my orders on Amazon.

It still "semi" works...as long as you turn the tablet every which way to get the touch screen to work. As long as it's partially functional, I'll let our grandson play his games on it. I backed up Nova, so I have my settings, and took a picture of each dock folder, so I'd know my most used apps.

We'll see what happens in the next few days. If I start to get the shakes, I may have to get one. If not, I'll see what the next generation offers, and decide then whether to replace it with the same one, or get the new. Honestly, this tablet is just perfect for me.

Maybe consider a Nook HD+, on sale now for $179. Easily rootable, PlayStore compatible, 9" display, can run JellyBean from SD. Love my N7 but considering that Nook...price is pretty damn good.

I've thought about that, but I've never rooted anything, and would probably be afraid to try on a brand new device! With my luck, I'd brick it. I have a good phone with a fairly large screen. I also still have my Kindle for reading (although man, does it feel clunky), so I may hold off awhile.

Amazon shipped that N7 even though I cancelled the order. Maybe they'll tell me to keep it, and not charge me for it! :D

wait... or if you can't the Nook hd is onsale and NOW it has the FULL Google Play store on it.. so it can be a real tablet.. Only thing I believe it is missing is a camera..

My Nexus 7 suddenly lost all color last week.. and was all shades of gray.. called Google and they shipped a new one the nx day... I do want the 2n generation but now have a brand NEW one.. I may just need to past this onto my nephew and get the New one in July...

Thats very sad to here...I have been showing of my nexus 7 in its seidio case to my friends scoffing at the mention of otterboxes. I dont think replacing it would be a recommendable course of action and youll soon regret it with the gogle I/O right around the corner. Perhaps you can rotate your device in situations when there is something going on in the corner.

Well, it turns out that I have absolutely no willpower. I was going to go on a business trip, so I stopped at a store to drool and sob over my broken unit and bought a replacement. I had a 16 gig and upgraded to the 32. After looking at the specs for the new one, there really isn't anything that I was dying for. I don't want or need a camera and the screen is great for these old eyes. I like my current accessories and know they fit this one.

Eventually I'll upgrade and pass this one on to DH, but for now, I'm glad I replaced it.

I would wait it out for the time being because the next one is just right around the corner. I'll be getting the next one too because I just loved the first one so much.
