My Nexus one super plan

I'm currently a verizon customer. I tried the droid when it first came out and while it was 98 pct of what I wanted I felt like the speed and design were a bit lacking.

Rumors of a google phone made me return the droid and see what google could come up with.

Now I'm dying to try out the nexus one. However, I REALLY like Verizon's coverage! Its the only company that gets phone service in my laboratory.

I heard a date of march 23rd for the release of the nexus one on verizon. I simply can't wait this long. My phone is dying and quite frankly once you have a smart phone, going back to a dumb flip phone is torture.

My idea is to get the N1 unlocked for T-mobile, put my verizon account on hold for 2 months and when the N1 hits verizon, sell my T-mobile N1 on ebay and buy the verizon one.

What do you guys think? Do you think N1 prices will remain relatively stable on t-mobile or will they plummet once the phone is available on the big red?

I'm eager to hear your thoughts on this.

The blackberry storm for verizon uses a sim card I believe. You might want to look into buying one of the older storms, if theres any left, solely for getting the sim card. But I dont own a storm so I cant say firsthand whether it works or not. Hope this helps

It has a sim in order to be a world phone. It's not the sim that allows you to be on one carrier or another it's the underlying technology (CDMA it gsm)

for those saying patience: I've been waiting for an upgrade since November. 5 months seems like a long wait. I mean if it only costs the diff in price google to eBay wouldn't you do it?

If you dont mind losing a little. The Nexus One wont bring you as much as it will cost to get a full retail phone and not because prices will plummet. It just isn't as popular as an iPhone or even a Droid. Might have been different if there was the usual $175-200 ETF on Tmobile, got the phone for $179 (or whatever it's going for) and then sold it for maybe $400. Essentially breaking even. I just don't see the Nexus one getting you a lot more than that but I could be wrong.

Actually, and forgive me if I read your reply wrong, but you can definitely unlock the Storm and use it on a domestic network.

The storm has the radio to work on tmobile (which is why it has a sim), but the N1 does not have the radio to work on verizon.

You really think so? For about $40 to $50 more you could get a brand new one. Don't forget about shipping and eBay fees too.

I don't think your phone will go for full-price on ebay considering you can get a brand spankin' new one on the phone portal. I also think that once it comes to VZW, world-phone or not, the majority of Americans won't be taking their phones overseas, which is why VZW is still the nation's leading wireless carrier. So, I don't see the T-Mo N1 holding it's value once it arrives on VZW. That's just speculation, but you can't argue with 1.2 million people scooping up the DROID. There's your proof right there. Smartphones are just going to be more attractive on a carrier whose coverage is like VZW.

Yeah I think so. Its ebay. People buy things and bid on things you can't explain even if it saves them $10 over a new one. If he keeps it nice and looking new...I don't see a problem that it can get him back at least 500.

True, but he will lose $25 to $50 in shipping and fees though. $450 is still a very good number.

Just get a cheap candy bar phone from ebay or your local classifieds and go month to month until the Nexus for VZW is released.

You felt the speed and design were lacking on the Moto Droid? I dont mean to be rude, but the droid has the fastest processor of any phone except the N1, and I think it looks great... I suspect you couldnt wait for the N1 so you got the droid...

While you're still not 100% committed and still somewhat in the shopping phase, check out Motorola Motoroi, coming out in March. Looks like a right cross between Droid and Nexus One, and it takes HD video. (See youtube or phonedog.com ) That oughta get your brain smokin...

My only issue with the MotoRoi - lack of a trackpad or trackball.... I've come to appreciate and love it on the Nexus despite initial "wtf" attitude... it comes in VERY handy...

but overall, the MotoRoi looks like a winner... defintely more appealing to me than a Droid with a crappy keyboard...

u shud just wait. If u buy it at full price ur ganna lose money either way. Buy phone for $566 after tax, then cancellation fee on T-MO is i think 150. So your looking at losing 200 and thats being generous if u sell the phone for 500.

I think if you buy the phone as a new customer its 179 but if you cancel early you have to pay the difference of the upgrade price to unlocked which is 350 and maybe even a cancellation fee of 150. Im not sure how true that is but I know I read it some where. Unless you have the money to throw around do it. Otherwise just wait. It sucks. My plan was to hold out to see if the price dropped, offered more plans on T-Mo, or went into stores. Needless to say, I held out for less than a week.
