Hi all,

I am totally new on android application and I have a problem. I try to build my first application on which I will type a message and it will appears on my screen but a message shows up that tells me "Unfortunately, my first app has stopped"

This is my DisplayMessageActivity.java
Code:
package com.example.firstproject;

import android.os.Bundle;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.view.MenuItem;
import android.support.v4.app.NavUtils;
import android.annotation.TargetApi;
import android.os.Build;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.widget.TextView;

public class DisplayMessageActivity extends Activity {

	@Override
	protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
		super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
		// Where you should perform initial setup for the activity components.
		setContentView(R.layout.activity_display_message);
		setupActionBar();
	  	Intent intent = getIntent();
		String message = intent.getStringExtra(MainActivity.EXTRA_MESSAGE);

	    TextView textView = new TextView(this);
	    textView.setTextSize(40);
	    textView.setText(message);

	    // Set the text view as the activity layout
	    setContentView(textView);
	}

	@TargetApi(Build.VERSION_CODES.HONEYCOMB)
	private void setupActionBar() {
		// Make sure we're running on Honeycomb or higher to use ActionBar APIs
		if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.HONEYCOMB) {
			// Show the Up button in the action bar.
			getActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
		}
	}

	@Override
	public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
		switch (item.getItemId()) {
		case android.R.id.home:
			NavUtils.navigateUpFromSameTask(this);
			return true;
		}
		return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
	}

}

and this is the MainActivity.java

Code:
package com.example.firstproject;

import android.os.Bundle;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.view.Menu;
import android.view.View;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.widget.EditText;

public class MainActivity extends Activity {

	public final static String EXTRA_MESSAGE = "com.example.firstproject.MESSAGE";
	/** In order for the next activity to query the extra data */

	@Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
    }

    @Override
    public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
        // Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
        getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.main, menu);
        return true;
    }

    /** Called when the user clicks the Send button */
    public void sendMessage(View view) {
        // Do something in response to button
    	Intent intent = new Intent(this, DisplayMessageActivity.class);
    	EditText editText = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.edit_message);
    	/**findViewById() to get the EditText element and add its text value to the intent*/
    	String message = editText.getText().toString();
    	intent.putExtra(EXTRA_MESSAGE, message);
    	startActivity(intent);

    }

}
