Help My S5 takes screen captures randomly

BobB

Newbie
Twice now in the two weeks I've had my S5 it's taken multiple screen captures while the phone is in my pocket and supposedly locked. Today it took three shots - a few days ago it took about 25 of them, many showing Web sites I had not even visited! Any thoughts on why this is happening and how I can prevent it?

I'm guessing it may have something to do with the camera icon that shows up on the screen even when the phone is locked. Can that be gotten rid of?

You are having the same thing I had for a while.

Get rid of that Swipe to unlock the Lock Screen. It gets toggled in your pocket.

I changed over to the Dotted Pattern you draw and all that crazy stuff went away.

You can change it. I just looked.

Settings/Lock Screen/Select Screen Lock

  • choose what you want it to be....

I chose the Trace the Dots pattern because that just about guarantees the phone will not unlock in my pocket.

I have a horror story about setting up a pincode to unlock the screen.
Once you set that thing up, I have NOT been able to find a way to undo it...

  • There should be a way
But, I did not find it, and so far no one has told me how to.
I ended up having to do a Factory Reset..... I have spent all of today rebuilding my phone the way I want it.

Sorry, I wasn't clear - I am already using a dots pattern to unlock the screen (I referred to it as a swipe pattern because that's what it feels like).

I'm still convinced that it has something to do with the fact that even when the phone is locked, you can start taking photos using the camera icon on the lock screen. That makes no sense to me - why should you be locked out of everything but the camera? And I'm hoping there's some way to turn that "feature" off.

I just figured out how to get rid of the camera - go to Settings-Lock Screen and unclick Camera Shortcut. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

I tried to use that icon which is showing on my lock screen....

Nada, zilch, nothing happens... so I am taking it off.

I know the intent was to make the phone "almost as fast" as a normal camera. But if the icon does not work, what use is it?

Besides, like you, a fast swipe of the dots brings up the homepage and that is where I keep my Camera icon.

If you like having the camera there, you can use it by swiping the icon upward.

Well now, I surely missed that piece of education.

I think I will put it back, because on my job we have a guy who just does NOT know what he is doing and I want to take a video of some of his stupid mistakes. He is endangering workers and damaging equipment....

I need a video so that I won't be thought a blabbermouth.... but it must be rectified.

EDIT: well try as I might, it just will NOT bring up the camera with an upward swipe.

Isn't there a setting to take a screen grab by moving your hand over the screen ?

Yes there is, swipe the screen from left to right and it will save a Screenshot.

For me though, it only works on the Home Screen. Try as I might, I have been unable to save screenshots of the other pages. The pages just slide to the right instead of saving screenshots.

But, (and I have not tested this) I have disabled 'Air View' and 'Motions & gestures'

Aha! Thanks, I found that Palm Swipe to Capture was turned on by default, now it's off and hopefully that's solved. But now I have a worse problem, for which I'll start a new thread; three times now my phone has dialed 911 while locked in my pocket.
