Root My z4 story so far (could really use some help pls)

I started with a stock z4 boost volt. So no root. I followed the guidelines and downgraded to z3 successfully, rooted, and then upgraded to the modified z4. I checked, and still had root. So everything was fine and dandy, I was fine tuning my system and almost had the finishing touches, then my play store up and breaks, and wouldn't load anymore. Tried the usual, data clear, uninstall updates, tried reinstalling the official version, nothing worked. So I finally decided to reflash the modified z4. Somehow I lost root in the process. I have no computer so it took me a minute to get back to z3. Now I'm rooted, haven't upgraded yet, but both play store and pandora have broken and won't load. I have no clue what the hell I did, they were working and then just died. (Pandora error 3005 I think it was. Googled it, nothing helped)

Now I'm nervous about upgrading in case I loose root again. I am rooted, I could deal with the loss of the play store and side load everything, but pandora is too big a loss. I'm an audiophile like few others. Thanks for reading this and for any possible help.

As long as you have cwm installed, you don't need to worry about losing root... You can just install superuser through cwm. The v4 update does not touch the recovery partition.

I'm sorry for the n00bish question but this might have been where I messed up before.. I take the bumped cwm recovery image and put it in a certain folder before flashing, right? Or I just need to rename recovery.img and flash?

Lol then I'm going to try to do this again. It should be fine, I have all the files ready on my sd card. Hopefully this will fix my mysteriously broken play services. And hopefully it won't happen again...

Once you have rooted with towelroot, download flashify from play. Put the recovery.IMG somewhere you can find. Flash recovery.IMG with flashify.

I think when you read something about a "certain folder" it was when flashing through adb and a SDK folder..just a guess though

Once you've flashed recovery make sure everything is working then make a backup in recovery.
Now you can flash the updated ROM and if you have issues you can always restore your backup.

I think you're right. The "so you upgraded to z4" guide was talking about adb, but I stopped short of that step, and someone else told me how to proceed with flashify

I lost root again.. i flashed the cwm recovery but i still lost root. This is now the third time i am going to have to downgrade. This is so friggin frustrating!!!!

The links to superuser and supersu are in the first post here

http://androidforums.com/index.php?threads/872005/ [ROM] ZV4 updated stock ROM

Either should work..

...really? But how can i flash if i need root for flashify? Do i need to use adb? Ive never used that before...

Flash in recovery.
Put one of those superuser zips on your external SD.
Boot to recovery and flash like you did the ROM.zip, just don't wipe/delete anything
