MyPhoneExplorer - Why no concerns?

I am just curious as to why no one else seems to be concerned about the security privileges of MyPhoneExplorer? Maybe I don't have a lot of knowledge of how Android security works.

But as far as I can tell this application can take all your contacts, texts, notes, emails, music listening preferences and send it over the air to this unknown entity called, FJ software development.

Who is FJ software Development and why are they giving away this app for free? Is no one concerned that there could a bunch of teenage hackers, having unlimited access to your personal lives on the phone, so to speak.

These are real questions and I am curious. Please if I have missed something, let me know. I am definitely not an android expert.

Thank you,
Bobby

Sounds pretty typical for a free app, especially one with a name like that. Have you looked at the permissions for the paid version, if there is one?

I Checked and could not find a paid version of the app. These companies have no contact information listed. They have no legal obligations or privacy policy to speak of and they are being given open access to our phones.

This is different form open source software where the source code is available for anyone to view and modify. This app is all binary code. How do we know what it is doing?

UncleMike, you are absolutely right, but then should it not have an iron clad security policy, privacy policy and a commitment to protect our information. I could not find any such thing.

Thank you everyone for responding. I think that these are important questions for all of us.

I made my first online purchase in 1999. I’ve tried to worry about it and the countless subsequent revelations I’ve submitted. Getting a droid gave me even more to worry about. Times are a’ changin'.

The only way to stop worrying is to junk my PC and my droid, shred my credit cards, pay cash for everything and use a pay phone. I am not going to do that, so the best I can do is look before I leap... again.

FJ has been around for ages. Just take a look at his 'guest book'. Entries back to 2007. Things like this give a good indication that MPE is 'legit' and not a scam. If you're after contact details then Google is your friend .....

Satisfied user .....

And if they had such policies you would have no way of knowing if they were adhering to them. How would this make you more comfortable?

Maybe you did not understand the sense of MyPhoneExplorer. You can manage all your private data of the phone with this software, cause of this it needs access to your private data.

On my homepage you will find my full name and postal address. What do you need more ? You wonder why it is free ? Why ? There is much freeware around the world. I do earn my money with donations and the promotion in the installer, thats all. I started with MyPhoneExplorer in 2004 for SonyEricsson-Phones, in 2010 i did adapt it for Android. It is still a developed in my free time, its not my main job. A privacy policy is needed for services where you put your private informations. Since NO DATA are transfered to any server its not needed to set up a privacy policy for me.

Search the web - you will find nobody who recorded that any private data went outside of MyPhoneExplorer.
