Very recently the apps shown in the attached screenshot appeared in my Apps display Apps: All. I have no idea where they came from, they claim to be "System" Apps and they obviously have Chinese names. I have them currently disabled and nothing bad has happened.

Any clues as to what they are and how they got on my tablet???

Here's what they look like:

Proscan are Chinese devices, possibly TCL, although I believe the Proscan brand is Technicolor, formerly Thomson.

Is this tablet rooted? Are they actually system apps?
One is "phone", and its icon looks like a phone app anyway. They do look like could be system apps. Can you uninstall them? If they're user apps, you should just be able to uninstall them the usual way.

If system apps appeared that weren't there originally, and the device is not rooted, they could have been put there by a manufacturer firmware update. Has this device been updated? If the tablet is rooted, anything is possible, like maybe they were attached to something you installed,

Thanks one and all for your replies.

1. Yes, they are system apps.

2. No, they can't be uninstalled -- only disabled (which I have done).

3. When I called Curtis Int'l the rep said that they might be system apps "which used to be hidden but now have becone visible", which didn't make sense but now indicates they may be the "deep" system apps mentioned by Darrion.

4. No, the device is not rooted though I have been salivating for the chance to do so but I am too timid to try it. It looks like a complicated, tricky business. I USED TO ( a VERY long time ago) be a UNIX/LINUX programmer and a JAVA programmer but I feel like a dinosaur dipping a toe into today's technological whirlpool. But I would like to root this thing if only to restructure the boot process to recognize my 16GB external SD card as an extension of internal system storage, I used to have no qualms about being SuperUser in my heyday but I'm a little unsure of myself today.

Anyway, thanks for your helpful posts. At least now I am not "spooked" by these and will probably re-enable thm on my device.
