Mystery apps in the Manage Applications list

I have a Rogers Magic, and I've noticed a couple of apps that appear in the Manage Applications list, but for which there are no shortcut icons on my phone to launch them. Can anyone tell me are these stand-alone apps I should be able to access, or are they part of other apps?

The are probably apps or aplets that are called by other apps to perform functions of native apps.

sound recorder is used by the Messaging app to record audio for sending out.
