Mystery / Ghost Alarm

Maggie2226

Lurker
Hi, my husband and I have been having this issue on 4 separate devices.

Randomly an alarm will sound on one of our devices. No notification or pop up is shown, and the only way to stop it is to restart. The alarm never exists on our clock app.

When I say random I mean it always happens at different times of day. Sometimes it'll happen a few days in a row, sometimes a few day will go by without it.

It started in my old phone, then my husband's phone started doing it, and not it happens on my new phone. I dug out my super old phone to use before my new phone arrived, and it started doing it on that phone, which was never a problem with that device before. And most recently it's started in my tablet, which I've had without incident for 7 years.

All devices are Samsung.
I have cleared the data and cache on my clock app to no avail.

I don't think so. When I get emergency alerts they're sent through the text app and use a full volume siren alert sound. This alarm uses the default alarm chimes and usually matches the volume my alarm notification is set at.

I'll try switching those off though. Guess you never know.

Be sure that you have enabled Developers Options.

The next time it happens, open Developers Options, and click on Running Services.

Check everything that is running, especially anything that is common between the devices.

Also, tap the overflow (3 dot icon, upper right) to check the cached apps as well.

Hopefully this will help to identify whatever app is causing it.

I would like to add that you might want to put your device in safe mode. This prevents any 3rd party apps from running. This will determine if it's a phone setting or an app that is causing this.
