MyTouch 3g vs MyTouch 4g

lol my little cousin would buy it if you were anywhere close to South Jersey

he thinks the phone is cute(and it was for 2009). I'm trying to find decent ones on craigslist for him

Well, Carmen, the last phone has been sold. The white 3G with 3.5mm jack arrived from Houston yesterday morning and was posted on Craig's List yesterday afternoon. It had a black silicone skin, a spare battery, the AC charger and USB cable, the hands-free ear buds and mic, and the original T-Mobile travel case. The screen was perfect, but the case had quite a few paint chips. It sold for $90, so that makes $335 for the three 3Gs. Hope you found the one you were looking for.

i guess i just got a killer deal on my 4g. only paid $175 for it. i was able to sell my 3g on craigslist for $120... so i really only paid $55 for the new one. couldn't even tell it was used.

I had the G1 and my sister had the mytouch 3g and both phones were slow as SNAILS. I eventually broke my G1 and upgraded to a Nexus one which was a huge improvement. My sister would constantly complain about how slow her phone was. Even with froyo and very few apps installed, the homescreen was very laggy and the contacts apps sometimes took over 20 seconds to load. That is just inexcusable for a phone when you need to make a quick phone call.

Now we both have the Mytouch 4G and it runs circles around those old phones.

until this week, i've been using the mytouch 3g. i've had the original ever since it came out. ive rooted it several times, factory resets, everything else i could do and it'd be good for a couple of days and then back to laggy, freezing, just frickin stupid. i was seriously hating it the last few months.

i finally qualified for a full upgrade this past week and i got the mytouch 4g (for 50 bucks!) from tmobile. it is a whole new world. there is no coparison between the mt3g and the mt4g. if you dont see the difference, you're just flat out ******ed.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks the 3g is a good phone has to be in denial. That thing and all older android phones like it are just slooooow. They're basically unusable. I installed different "speedy" roms for my g1 which had a ram hack to make things smoother, but it was never fast enough for me. My old flip phones were faster.

I think this is a matter of subjectivity. I mean before we had dual core and snapdragons and the likes, these were the pheones we used regularly. Phones like the 3g and the were plenty fast now.

I think it's mainly because we now have been exposed to faster phones that we deem the phone unusable.

I own an Xperia Play/Droid Charge and they are quite usable and speedy and I've played with my friend's Droid Eris( a 2009 verizon phone in the same league as the mytouch 3g) and while it is slow as ever, it is quite usable.

No no, I remember my G1 was pretty slow from DAY 1. I remember waiting forever even for the dialer or contacts to load up. I often counted how long it took to load things. Contacts on average seem to take about 10-15 seconds, and sometimes even as long as 30+ seconds. That's horrendous.

Sometimes my cousin needed to borrow my phone for a quick call or something and then complain about how slow it was. I would be in denial and tell him because it was a smartphone and I had a lot of apps. Then he would say "I'd rather just use a regular phone over this. At least the address book opens up right away." And what he said was true. :(

Oh okay :) Well like i said, i think it is subjective by user to user.

That said, I don't think i could go back and use a phone like the mytouch 3g in this day and time unless times got hard and I switched to Virgin and got an Optimus or intercept lol. At least then i could justify the slowness of the phone by their great plans hahaha

Well, from what I've heard, the Optimus phones run decently even though they're only 600mhz.

The G1, mytouch 3g, and other first gen Android phones use an old Qualcomm 528mhz processor that's both slooow and battery inefficient. It also didn't help that the G1 and early Mytouchs only had 192MB of ram. I think they bumped it up to 288MB ram for later mytouch 3Gs.

Also, Virgin has a dual core motorola phone now:)

EDIT: Whoops nvm, it's not dual core. It is 1Ghz though.

yeah my friend has the triumph. It's a good phone.
Good to see VM is stepping up and getting more
competitive phones.
