I just got the mytouch 4g after talking with you all on the forum and getting great info on the device it is a no brainer for my needs. All was fine when I got it yesterday and was in a major city all day, THEN I got home and the problems have come.

I double checked my home location on their coverage map and it's green to dark green, only white is in a town down the street but it's far enough away on the map to where it shouldn't be a problem.

I can only get Edge service at home, and when trying to select the network setting to force 3g/4g it jumps back to GSM only on it's own. Trying a factory reset right now, but i'm on the verge of taking this back if i can't get good service at home.. any suggestions?? :-/

Can you just use wifi while @ home?

I'm trying to, but even that is intermittent with the phone. My pc is hooked up via wifi and works perfectly. My goal was to not have to use wifi and use the phone tether feature and drop my ISP service eventually.

Oh yikes :(. Depending on your internet usage thst might not even be feasible since we have s 5gig data cap before our speeds are throttled. Also, you might check the coverage map again. The green shows voice coverage, but there is a separate map to show data coverage in shades of purple.

I do not plan on using above the 5gb cap, I will double check the map, I only looked at the green. Thank you so much for the help, hopefully this will get fixed soon, there isn't another phone i would rather go with than this one.

I looked at the data map and it says it's in the "mobile web" range, does that mean i could get at least 3G speeds?

Mobile web, just the regular, is typically GPRS and EDGE. Unfortunately there's nothing they'll be able to do to help you resolve your connectivity problems and they'll probably suggest using wifi at home. Honestly even though I have more than enough speeds where I'm at I would never drop my cable provider to use this phone exclusively for internet. Like penguin said you will probably get throttled and then end up really mad. It takes way less time to use 5 GB of data on a PC than a phone.

Whenever your phone is on a WiFi connection, the phone will force itself into GSM (2G/Edge) mode, as the phone is using WiFi and has no need to be in 3G/4G mode. This saves battery power. While you're on the WiFi connection, there won't be an option for WDCMA.

When your phone no longer has a WiFi connection, it will revert back to its previous settings.

If for some reason, you must have 3G/4G for a voice call (and it's rare that this would be necessary), you can turn off the phone's WiFi.
