Help mytouch 4G, on 3G.?

I've seen a few threads about the MyTouch 4G running on 3g when they were in an area where the signal dropped below "4g". As far as I know my phone can only run on edge -E, and the hsdpa+ -H, and occasionally it will drop down to the G. But it has never went on 3g, so I'm wondering what are people talking about.? I've heard sprints 4G phones like the Evo can run on both 4G and 3g but not t-mobile.

With the mytouch 4g and the g2, 4g and 3g both show up as H. There isnt a way to tell which one youre operating on by looking at the symbol

It shows a "G" if you're in 3g coverage. H only shows up for 4g.

that's a negative, it shows "G" when you are in a G area, "E" when you are in an Edge/2G area and "H" when you are in a 3G or 4G area. Unless you are rooted and running either eVil D's eVil 4G-HD ROM (Desire HD port) or his eVil 4G-Z ROM (Desire-Z port) in that case you get all 4... G, E, 3G or H.
I drive an 18-wheeler up and down I-35 in Texas everyday and see all 4 of them all day long, before flashing the Desire HD port I would only see G, E and H.

Yup, they went out of their way to make it confusing by leaving out the 3g indicator. I've in a 4g area, but have yet to experience 4g speeds or connectivity (my network is always shown as UMTS or HSDPA-both 3g networks).

What's even better, if you look at the manual online it shows that it is supposed to display a 3g icon.

Having just switched to the MT4G from a Vibrant I am very happy with the phone itself... "4G"....not so much.

If you want to see what network you are running on just go to Settings>About Phone>Network and you will see if you are running GSM, UMTS, HSDPA, HSPA or HSPA+.

Dialing *#*#4636#*#* will get you a more detailed display of what is going on with your netowrk connectivity.

I wish there were an option for just 3G. 4G is in my area and it eats my battery alive. I dislike using Edge when I want to hurry and do something.

...........

Dialing *#*#4696#*#* will get you a more detailed display of what is going on with your netowrk connectivity.

Any chance you could elaborate on this? My phone (MT4G) is not allowing me to call nor text the number that you provided.

Thanks
