Help n00b Question About Google Play Games/Books

I've gotten some help with my Note 2 recently, as this is the first real android smart phone I've ever owned. while I appreciate the help, I still have a few others questions.

I use have the Play Store app on my main page, but I found the other default Google icons (like Google Play Games, Books, Movies & TV, etc) to be overkill. So I stopped all of these and turned them "Off" so they would not appear in my app drawer anymore.

While I'm still able to access all the same areas for games, movies and other media in the store, I'm wondering did I make a mistake turning off the others?

Are apps like Google Play Books and Google Play Movies & TV necessary to play your content bought or rented from Google Play? I know that Google Play Games IS NOT required to play your games. If not, what would you view your movies or eBook in with these apps turned off?

Thanks!

Any thoughts? I just wanna make sure I have not disabled some of the vital front-end apps that are used to play these types of media.

Hi

I suspect they are needed (i only use google play music so not sure) but if you have a problem you can easily enable them again:

Menu button
Manage apps
All tab at the top (right hand tab)
Scroll right to the bottom of the list
Disabled apps are there complete with enable button

Hope that helps

Roger

Do you buy books and movies/TV shows? If not, then there's no need for them. Plus, you can order from the main Play store if you need to

actually, you perfectly hit on my question. The reason I disabled all the others in the first place was because I saw Play Store had the same areas (as you mention).

My question is: what do I use to view my content (like movies or books) if Google Books and Google Movies/TV are disabled? Can I even do this?

That depends on the format of the books/movies and where they are being stored (online/offline). For example, as for the books, if you have them stored locally (SD card) and they are in say PDF format then you could use any PDF reader to read them. As for the movies, if they are stored in your SD card and they are in say AVI format then you could use any video player to watch them. Google Books and Google Movies/TV are not a necessity.

Thanks for the info. I suspected as much but I just to be clear on something: if I did rent or buy a video from Play Store (say the new Hunger Games for example) would I only be able to play it Via Google Play Movies & TV app?

No, you can simply stream the contents via your favorite internet browser on your Note 2 or even on your PC (play.google.com/movies).

Edit:
Please note that streaming contents using the internet browser will give you 480p quality only. To watch your movies in HD you will have to use Google Play Movies/TV app or Vudu app.

Thanks again! I went ahead and just re-enabled them to ensure they work, but I'll still try to do everything through Google Play itself.

More questions to follow but Ill make a new thread.
