N1 -> Amaze 4G - Redux

glennjr15

Newbie
I'm going to start off by saying that I MISS my N1 and am starting to hate my Amaze 4G. Now this may all change if I decide to root my phone (which I'll probably do before the final decision) but so far this is how I feel.

Things that I miss about the N1:
Trackball
Tethering
Sleek form factor

Things that I don't miss about the N1:
Internal memory limitations

Things that I like about the Amaze 4G:
Camera quality
Front facing camera
Internal memory
Sturdier micro USB connection on phone (one included)

Things that I hate about the Amaze 4G:
No tethering w/o root
Frequent crash/reboots
No trackball
HORRIBLE bluetooth connectivity
Bloatware pre-installed
Tends to pocket-dial A LOT more than the N1, even if locked.
Low speakerphone volume
Internet seems slower than w/ N1
Can't talk & surf web at same time (unless on wi-fi)

I was SUPER EXCITED about getting the HTC Amaze 4G, but am now a little disappointed. I want an improved N1 to come out. Call it the N2 even....

Regarding your complaints...

No tethering w/o root
I don't tether, don't know, can't help.

Frequent crash/reboots
My Amaze has never done that. You may have a problem app causing trouble.

No trackball
I always had a trackball before and thought I would miss it but now I'm glad it's gone.

HORRIBLE bluetooth connectivity
Mine works very well.

Bloatware pre-installed
Agreed.

Tends to pocket-dial A LOT more than the N1, even if locked.
??? Not possible to pocket-dial a locked phone.

Low speakerphone volume
Mine has excellent volume, best of any phone I've had except a Nokia N900.

Internet seems slower than w/ N1
4G or WiFi my speed is very good.

Can't talk & surf web at same time (unless on wi-fi.
??? That should work on any GSM phone! (Except if your data connection is Edge/2G only.)

All in all I'm very happy with my Amaze and will probably keep it a long time.

Your Amaze seems to have several abnormal problems. It might be due to problem apps, incorrect setup, a defective device or a combination of things. You might try a factory reset or taking it back to T-Mobile.

Under ICS, you can just disable the bloatware and it won't appear in the app drawer, won't prompt for update on Play. ;)

I talk and surf just fine. In fact I played an hour long game of Scrabble with her while we talked. Bingoed for 50 pts. I can't sent an MMS, though.
